I really don't enjoy holidays anymore, and Memorial Day was never one of my favorites. That sounds like it is your mother's issue, not yours. If she makes you so very uncomfortable at these gatherings, then don't go. The traditional "obligation" to go is NOT valid when the hosting party does not treat the guests well, no matter the "excuse." She seems to seek out drama from what you said, and that is not healthy for anyone. I remember you telling me about the time you went out for the evening and she called DCFS on you...pretty extreme I'd say. I believe in avoiding drama in my life, and maybe you do too. Sometimes you have to pick your battles, but sometimes it is worth avoiding someone because they only bring drama and discomfort into your life. *hug*
