05 It took me so long to find out, and I found out

Norrington was sitting in the Great Hall eating his dinner in a comfortable silence. This was the first meal he had taken in the Hall all day so he hadn't had a moment to look at the Daily Prophet until then. He sipped his pumpkin juice as he flipped through the pages, skimming articles about the Minister visiting Germany and the Chudley Cannons ( Read more... )

DG was walking up to dinner when she saw him. He has a Prophet- her first instinct is to ask to see it. Maybe there was something about Azkadellia in there. She's going to ask to borrow it, definitely....

That was until she noticed that he seems to be upset. She wonders what's wrong.

"Seat taken...?" She asks, tapping his shoulder, leaning down close to him.

"No, no not at all."

He still stares off into space a bit.

DG looks over at him as she slides into the seat next to him. Her voice is quiet.

"...Are you okay?" She says, worried. She's never seen him like this before.

He clears his throat. He had decided that she didn't need to know. Yet.

"I'm fine, DG... I have a bit of a headache..."

He glances at his folded paper.

"They're alright, I just wasn't that hungry..."

Norrington still wasn't particularly hungry. He could see the way that DG looked at him and he wondered if it was safe or not. He wondered if she had the ability to shatter his heart into a million pieces.

DG smiles. "Well, I would have said I don't blame you. They're nasty little things."

Another strand of hair falls into her eyes. She releases a puff of air, and it flies up, but then falls right back inot her face again. It makes her laugh.

"It depends on how they're prepared..."

He laughs at her. "Not so effective, that.." Once again he pushes the hair behind her ear.

Norrington glanced out at the student body.. none of them were really paying attention, but he and DG really need to be more careful in front of the students, even though nothing was going on between them.

She shrugs a bit. "I don't really like vegitables... I can stomach peas with ketchup."

She grins, leaning up off of the table, before talking down to her plate. "May I have some scrambled eggs, please?"

Scrambled eggs came up through the plate less than a second later. DG thanks the house elves below. "Want some, Jim?" She offers.

"Oh you think so? You think you would have dazzled me so much with conversation that I would have mistaken lemon tart for chocolate cake? I don't think you know my taste buds, madam."

He dug his fork into his cake.

"Well, my witty words would have hopefully kept you so spellbound you wouldn't have tasted it."

Grinning, she took a big forkful of her tart, eating it with relish and very cheekily; pretending it's the best thing she's ever eaten. She made "mmm" sounds.

"Oh you think so?"

He glances up.

"You know who's spellbound? Those Slytherin boys right there."

He points to a group of Slytherin boys who are looking at DG and talking amongst themselves.

DG chokes on her tart, mortified.

"Jeez-!" She says, in between gasping for breaths.

"No not really..."

He turned to her.

"Do you enjoy my company, DG?"

DG raises her eyebrows, surprised. "Uh, yeah... you're really fun to be around."

"No it's just... we see each other quite a bit... and I'm not saying it's a bad thing, because I enjoy spending time with you too, I'm just... making an observation.."

Where exactly he was going with this observation he did not know.

DG finds this a bit awkward. "Oh.. uh, I guess we do."

She doesn't really know what to say to that.

"But it's not a bad thing, yeah..? Friends spend time with friends, right?"
