Honestly I was expecting some sort of kissing btw the two just for sake of Mrs.Kaye. Anyway, Jenna is pretty adorable here (too bad she's only be like this in fic from now on.)
I tried but there was no where that it didn't seem horribly forced. The closest I could come up with was when he first got home, but kissing your girlfriend when her mother whom you've never met is standing right there (and you know she's there) just seemed awkward.
Don't worry. There'll be a kiss between them some time in the fic. Ultimately, though, I decided there was no rush on it. After all, as of this moment Mrs. Kaye has less than reason to even suspect Jenna and Steve aren't together so long as she doesn't pick up on tension between either of the real couples in this fic. Steve and Danny, or Jenna and Kono, and, since Jenna and Kono are both in the closet so to speak, I decided they'd probably, initially, be better at hiding things.
I am so loving this, is it wrong to say I hate Jenna's mother? Nicely done, and looking forward to the next part. And I feel for Jenna, she's so stressed.

Though I think a woman who so conservative her daughter felt it necessary to engage in an elaborate lie for her benefit than admit she's dating a woman would also have some opinions her daughter dating her boss.
There's a method to her madness is what I was trying to get at. Hopefully that'll become more clear.
