Overheard while waiting in line to pay for lunch:

Guy 1: So how are you liking it here so far?
British guy: Well, I went to see DC for the first time this weekend...we were driving around sight-seeing. There were police everywhere!

Well, other than losing due to Godwin's Law they're about dead on. A 1000$+ fine is pretty messed up given most of the traffic on 495 is doing right around 20 over.

I heard what they were saying and tried to imagine going 20 miles over the speed limit while sight-seeing in DC on a weekend, when DC traffic is its most dense and nonsensical. I think you'd get moving for about half a block before you ass-ended a circulator bus or mowed down a cloud of tourists.

And, if you piss off the cop you gives you a ticket in VA for 20+ over, he can get you for Reckless Driving instead, and your license could be suspended. Or, that's what I hear, anyway.

Not to mention what that kind of violation does to your eligibility for car insurance.

Though, I'm amused at the self-righteous anger. I mean, if you purposefully break the law, don't get upset when you get punished for it. I mean, duh.

See, that is when you should have turned to him and said 'No, sir. If it were like Nazi Germany over here, we would have coast-to-coast Autobahns with no speed limits on them, and would all be driving fairly decent machines that don't break down every 18 months.....'

Either that, or you shoulda bitch-slapped him and roundly cursed him out for comparing this country to a genocidal regeime bent on world domina.....whoops, sorry, we ARE that right now, aren't we??
