you know, that's a great idea, you got there! i downloaded some new Spineshank songs and they all have ads for buying the CD every minute and it gets really annoying to listen to so i'm just gonna wait for the CD release. it worked pretty well!
thats exactly what metallica did for st. anger... have u tried dloading anyof the songs? theyre all John Denver tunes lables as the metallica tracks. here's the thing. The lables would still be losing out on tons of cash... You gotta sell a LOT of cds to run THAT many servers 24/7. think of the costs: -hardware (all the hard drives/servers/etc) -the actuall realestate where the servers would be kept (and there would have to be more than one place) -The re-occuring costs: bandwidth, electricity, paying people to set up and maintain the servers/connections
...and so on... so ya, i still think it would be a great idea, but as you know, the job of every purchasing department is to not spend money... and so it would be a hard sell
if all record labels chipped in money, or paid a company to do this, it would be better, everyone chipping in money can end the whole downloading/piracy trend
