Let's see. I've been watching CFUD since May 8th and playing since May 16th OLD SCHOOL.

Near, to me, is number one and knows it. And in a REALLY infuriating way. He's not like those prima donnas who are easy to hate; he's the kind of person who makes his superiority known through pwning you again and again and again and being COMPLETELY COOL as he does it. And it's HARD to hate him for it because he's RIGHT.

This was cemented through his interactions with Ying, really. A lot of campers tend to look up to her because she's smart, or because she's older than everyone, or because she's a badass chick, or even because she's the wife of ZHUGE FUCKING LIANG. And Near obviously doesn't. It was probably the Raito thing that started it, but even now that he's got his respect for her back (kinda), it's obvious to me that he still sees her as an equal AT BEST.

And I think that's pretty damn cool.

I'm new to CFUD (watching since October/Novemberish, playing since late December for Fllay and late January for Mwu) so I don't really have any knowledge of Near before then.

I do, however, think he comes off as proud to the point of arrogance, blunt, and unafraid to say what he's thinking. From my interactions with him, he seems to approach people with a defensive or hostile attitude but it does not compromise his ability to be reasoned with.

It seems to me that Near enjoys playing games with people, and uses them as a means to unlock parts of their character or to express superiority. He's an awesome detective and he knows it, dammit, so he doesn't take issue with using it as an intimidating force.
