Smooch has been an unrelenting prick and nothing we try seems to work well enough to stop him picking fights and pissing on things.  The Feliway diffusers help but the refills are expensive and we can't afford to keep three or four running.  Medication helps but not enough.

I don't want to rehome him.  Who would even take a cat with kidney disease

I know it sounds weird, but if you can manage it, maybe try CBD? I used it to address the Total Assholery Syndrome my partner's cat was having and it seems to have totally done the trick. She has entirely stopped rage-pissing, fighting and food-guarding and has stayed calm for like six months.

Oh, that's a REALLY cool idea, and it looks like it might be good for Etrigan's tummy issues, too.

The price tag is steep, but maybe I can find some that's affordable...
