I am boycotting English.

No, wait, that came out wrong; I am boycotting prose in English for a while, because obviously if you read this it means I wrote it in the first place. In English. I also suppose I should add poetry to that, even though I don't read a lot of it

I know exactly what you mean; it can be exhausting trying to read something in a second or third language. I'm like that with French; I consider myself bilingual, and yet, reading in French takes the kind of brain power and energy that English reading just doesn't require. Reading in French is an effort; reading in English is a relaxing pleasure. That said, I try to read at least one or two French books a year, just to keep my skills up.

For a while, I was trying to read newspaper articles in Hebrew, so I wouldn't lose my reading skills there either. These days, I just find it far too tough. Ten years ago, it would have been no problem. I guess it's true what they say about languages: use 'em or lose 'em.

The annoying part of it is that I read a lot more than two or three books in English a year. I usually don't remember that it takes effort. It just surprises me. Eck.

I seem to recall someone (in Japan) telling me that English was the language of exceptions, instead of rules. The fact that you can read as much as you can (when I, who can read English, can ONLY read English) is a statement of how much effort you've put into it. Don't give up!

Y'know, this is really interesting to me to read because English is my only language. I never would have guessed it isn't your first. I really want to try another language, though *_* aside from English, I only know American Sign Language.

You'd be happy to hear that you are in fact bilingual. Sign languages are actualfax languages. :)

\o/ awesome! I'm not actually very fluent in ASL (I'm self taught, so it's shaky), but I know just enough that I could by if I was suddenly dropped in a country full of deaf people. So I guess I know a language and a half. 8D

Yep! Sign languages have grammar and vocabulary and all. They're totes languages. It's even some people's native language {including hearing children whose both parents are deaf}.

Sadly, you'll only be able to talk to American deaf people. Israeli sign language is completely different, and even in Israel we have a couple of sign languages that are completely different. XD
