I obtained my private pilot certificate last November, I passed my instrument rating FAA test this morning, and I'll be taking my commercial certificate FAA test in June. We're now 3 days away from our trip back to Michigan. I would say "back home" but MI stopped being home in July. Well, the flying thing didn't happen on Wednesday. There was a schedule mix-up and my instructor had to exchange a plane in Fort Huachuca the same time we were supposed to be meeting up. It's the big day! In about 30 minutes, I'm going to walk to the aviation building for my first flying lesson. Here goes nothin'!

My first flying lesson is tomorrow morning at 8:15, with a New Tribes guy who teaches flying at the school, named Josh. And Jen is on the brink of getting a job in financial aid with Cochise here on the Douglas campus. God is still God.

Well, I suppose the high had to end sometime. Jen and I are a bit discouraged/melancholy this evening. We're finding ourselves bothered by the fact that we don't know anyone here, and that we can't understand what anyone is saying. As the housing lady showed us around our dorm yesterday, she pointed out some mud nests up in the corners of the building. Alot of mud nests. They're swallow nests, it turns out, because the swallows live here until October, when they migrate for the winter. It's Thursday, and Jen and I have made it to Arizona. We've gotten our "apartment" and moved our stuff in and started to get my financial aid loose ends tied up. It's hot here, and we're 3990 feet above sea level, which means the air is a little thinner than back in Michigan (Saginaw's elevation is 630 ft), so we've found ourselves getting winded ( Read more... )
