I think it’s somewhat sad that German movies - or European movies in general - have such a hard stand in other countries

*nod* I get you. It's hard to pinpoint just what exactly makes European movies different, but they are very different. Especially the endings. I have to admit, being a sucker for angst, I often prefer the less happy endings in many European movies to Hollywood happy ends. My inner cynic just rails at these XD
