Character Writing Meme

Jan 23, 2011 18:07

I have nothing else to post except some rant, but… nah, no rant today. So have meme, since everyone on my flist seems to post it.

Pick a character I've written/am likely to know about and I will give and explain the top five ideas/concepts/etc I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to accurately depicting them.

fandom, writing, meme

I'm not going to take the obvious...for once. Okay it is obvious because I love him: Sixshot. :D

… that crotch. *snickers*

*lol* Okay, not the obvious. :p

Hmm… Sixshot:

#1 - He’s lonely, and well aware of that.
#2 - He has no relation of life and death; hence he is not afraid of dying.
#3 - He’s a sociopath
#4 - He doesn’t talk much, and if he does, he hardly knows how to shape the things he wants to say.
#5 - He despises people who are afraid of him.

Blame Ultharkitty for the GLORY that is sixshot's crotch. XD

Now, I have a question. When you say sociopath, what do you mean? B/c there's actually a parallel development/snafu in terminology, and coming from the US, a sociopath is someone who has no empathy and no moral structure, but who *can* be charming and manipulative--sociopaths in US definitions are excellent at reading the emotions of others and twisting them to their own ends. I'd read somewhere that in Europe they flipflop--our sociopath is your psychopath and vice versa.

Is that you mean? B/C I kind of see Sixshot as a psychopath in US terms--on the outside, knowing he's on the outside, and completely lacking the ability to change it. (Now, Sunstreaker, I do see as a classic sociopath!)

Woah, okay. O__O I didn't know about this difference, but I meant psychopath in the US sense, then. Kinda like you said, that he knows he doesn’t quiet fit in the society, but also completely lacks the sense of knowing why, and not having an understanding of society’s rules etc…

(As for Sunstreaker… I also think he’s an US psychopath, but still different from Sixshot. I mean he isn’t charming at all, and can’t be, because he just says what he thinks and doesn’t care or know what impact his words can have.
Yay for the wide range of antisocial personality disorders. *lol*)

Hmmm, I'm gonna go with... Sunstreaker :D

Yay, Sunstreaker. :D I’d hoped someone picks him. :p

Okay, Sunstreaker:

#1 - He’s a sociopath and lacks empathy for most people.
#2 - He doesn’t need to polish himself every day, because even with scratches and a bland paintjob, he knows he looks better than everyone else.
#3 - He hardly feels pain (because of some… ‘glitch’ that is his existence aka parted/shared spark and core programming with Sideswipe).
#4 - He’s ruthlessly honest and undiplomatic.
#5 - He hardly has a relation of violence and when it’s appropriate and when not.

Oooh, the bit on pain is interesting :D Kind of makes sense though - especially considering he and Sideswipe are pretty unique as twins :p

*lol* It's part of my head canon... And kinda complicated?
Because I think core programing and spark work together as once, and Sideswipe and Sunstreaker have both incomplete core programing and are in constant pain because of this. But since they kinda got used to the pain, they don't feel it anymore, and don't feel much at all... Poor guys. *lol*

*g* Yay, the first Combaticon...
Okay, Swindle:

#1 - His advantage is the only thing that matters.
#2 - For him, everything is business and with the right words, everything can be sold to everyone.
#3 - He has some self-esteem issues when it comes to how the rest of his team treats him.
#4 - He and Brawl have a bromance.
#5 - He doesn’t get Blast Off most of the time, and annoys the shuttle unknowingly.

Onslaught… *thinks*

#1 - He hates losing.
#2 - He loathes incompetence, which means Brawl has to be competent with something if Onslaught tolerates him.
#3 - He’s an egoist.
#4 - After the reprogramming, he tries to put up with it and make the best out of this situation (Nonetheless, he’d be happy to change it).
#5 - He loves it when a plan comes together. (*g* Sorry, couldn’t resist that one. :p)

Gonna be uninspired and say Blast Off.

*lol* It’s still a good choice. :p

Blast Off:

#1 - He’s incapable of feeling strong emotions such as love/hate but he also can’t be truly sad or happy (which is kinda sad), and he also hadn’t been able to be really angry/furious; not before he met Vortex and the others and he slowly learnt that.
#2 - He also lacks the understanding of these feelings and that others might have them.
#3 - He can cope better with non-sentient things than with people.
#4 - Despite his lack of interest in people, he is pretty curious if it comes to space and/or science.
#5 - He’s an egoist.

And an additional point:

#6 - Even though he thinks patronisingly about his team, he is somewhat fond of them (which is mostly due to the gestalt programming).
