This is actually a big pet peeve of mine. I generally take that phrase as "You're being too sensitive." How can your experiences not be personal? I could see someone using that phrase if you were getting mad about something that didn't happen to you, but when it is an event in your personal life, it's natural to internalize things. Some people don't and good for them, but that doesn't mean that no one should. Yeah it'd be great to not be bothered by anything, but I don't think that's possible all the time even for the most insensitive of people

I thank you for your comments. I also don't particularly enjoy it when people use this phrase. I think you're right about this idea of "conform to my insensitivity, but I won't conform to your sensitivity." And, like I said, I found it particularly annoying because I WASN'T feeling sensitive about either of the incidents that I alluded to. I was just sort of commenting, being aware of the world around me, the interactions I have with other people. Gar. Yes. You seem quite excellent. (Merry Christmas!)
