I really, really, really hate the taste of fake meats. But, I like tofu and you don't. Tastes vary, and to each their own and all that jazz. I tried some fake breakfast sausage a few months ago and my vegetarian Aunt and Uncle's, and wanted to kill myself.
Well, it could vary widely from brand to brand. I have no doubt that some vegetarian alternatives are edible, while others aren't. Perhaps I just lucked out and picked a good one.
As I said, the gardenburger I tried in college was truly, truly awful.
I tried some other fake meats at a local vegetarian restaurant, for work (evaluating the place as a potential tenant), including fake chicken and fake shrimp. The shrimp was the worst. Seriously. You'll be wishing you had a gardenburger if you ever ate.
I've tried so many awful ones, I have no urge (nor need) to try any more. And unless I'm starving and that's the only available food source, I'm not going to bother. Especially since I did the vegetarian experiment for 2 years well over a decade ago.
That said, I'm sure some brands are better than others. There may be something out there edible I'm missing. I'm sure some of it can't be that much different than say McD's. ;)
Oh and I think you chose well. Boca Burgers are the best in terms of texture and taste for a "burger-like" experience. Boca Burger even has a vegan burger which is surprisingly good for a vegan burger. Their other products can be awesome as well. I think I already mentioned their version of the "McRib" as well as their Italian sausages which don't taste good by themselves but are great in stuff like mac & cheese. I especially love when I have a coupon for Boca Burger products because then they're really cheap, like a dollar a package at Ralphs
( ... )
I'm not sure why i even graded it. i just couldn't help myself, sorry. Does that put me in the veganus insanitus category? I get so excited when people try vegetarian stuff.
but if you have to know, I saw too much fat with all that cheese the first day and that combo lunch had a lot of empty calories and fat. also the diet drinks may be implicated in obesity but I'm not sure if that's because obese people like them or if they actually make you obese. partly i was looking at the menus from the health perspective as well as the calorie perspective.
But also more leafy greens if you like them. Great source of protein that isn't a fake meat, which are actually quite horrible for you unless you buy a good brand. I hate leafy greens and things like squash and zucchini, which is why I can't be a vegetarian.
Broccoli and Cauli are not going to make you feel very well and you will get gassy.
