I was there near MacArthur Park...but not at the reported incident.

Anarchists were dispersed among the crowd and were throwing rocks, bottles and bricks at the police...injuring officers and civilians alike.

My squad got hit by rocks and bricks when we were driving to a location to help secure a street.

It was rough out there... Once again, the media is doing an outstanding job reporting their version of the "news." I've said it before, but I'll say it again... There is no real news reporting anymore...it's just selling and telling their version of a story.

I actually heard someone on the radio about how the media trumps up the drama for "news". He said that he saw a guy shaking his camera and running to make it look like he was getting hit even though he wasn't even near the action. It's their job to get the news and so they have to poke their heads where it's most dangerous but when they can't they gotta make it up. I can't believe someone actually admitted to this.

That kind of reminds me of Geraldo Rivera, and how they would always put him as close to a hurricane as they dared, so viewers could see him struggling to keep from being blown away.

Or the famous video where a news reporter is paddling in a canoe on a "flood scene"...and then someone walks right past her, on camera, revealing that the water is no more than 8 inches deep.

Smoke and mirrors.

Three words: "Remember the Maine!" None of this is particularly new. The media is out to make money, so they're after dramatic stories, not some empirical hunt for the often boring truth. What stories journalists want to tell are, of course, informed by their personal and editorial biases. Fortunately, we're entering an era when shmoes with cell phones can explode the falsehoods, omissions and decontextualization that are the trade in the "spindustry." Unfortunately, we're also entering an era where it's all too easy to lock yourself in an echo chamber and never have your version of reality challenged.
