A little fic on Leah.
The first time Leah dreamed of a wedding she wanted the whole shebang; a big white dress, pews filed, of faces with guests of everyone she ever knew and maybe a few doves at the ceremony…
When she was in love with Sam, (that’s how she distinguishes the time in her life, cause there was before and then
There was after.)
But when Sam was by her side, when he was the only thing that she could see, the only one she could breathe, he made it far too easy for her see things. Maybe. One day in the not so far future.
How could she not, with promises of forever.
I’ll never leave you Lee-Lee.
I’ll love you till the day I stop breathing.
By then the dream had changed. It didn’t matter if the dress was white, a pair of jeans and a tank could do. And really, who needed a big wedding - their parents and Seth would be more than enough if she were honest. All that mattered was that Sam would be the one standing across from her gazing into her eyes.
But the day Sam met Emily, that dream shrivelled up and died. Truth be told it wasn’t until they’d said their vows, that she really gave up on that dream. Somewhere, deep down she’d hoped that the imprint would fade and he’d come back to her, someday. Staring into each others eyes. With a shy smile of a secret shared.
I do.
I’ll never leave you.
I’ll love you till the day I stop breathing, Emily.
She never paid it much thought, after. Why would she?
Until one day, Nessie told Leah her dream.
She touched her hand and Leah could see little Loch Ness all grown up in a simple white dress that couldn’t downplay her beauty and Jacob so handsome in a tux, looking so damn happy all wrapped in each others embrace. And she felt sick.
Somewhere along the line, probably between the moment Jacob first held her hand and the stolen kisses back in the reservation, he became all that she could see.
It was then that Leah realised what she had to do. It was all a damn curse.
Living on the reservation, being able to phase, it was never meant for her. Why else would the slither of happiness dance out of her reach every time she got near. That was when she made the decision. She’d never had a single moment of realisation so clear ringing out in her mind.
She left a note for her mother, one for Seth and one for Jacob and got on the first bus to the city, she didn’t know where she’d go after but it didn’t really matter.
I’m sorry.
I’ll miss you, take care of mom.
Nothing lasts forever right.
