A day after the end of the world. It's not bad, actually. I could swear I'm still alive.

Probably because... they're not even getting to the recreation of the big bang until weeks (or months) from now. Wasn't the first use of the Hadron Collider just to send a particle around one way? To test it out? And then, in a few weeks, they'll send a particle around the reverse way, to test that out too?

I'm no physicist, but I'm guessing turning ( Read more... )

Well, I'm sorry about the job but omg, the rest of it is sounding pretty awesome - I've always thought teaching and private practice would be the ideal combo - best of both worlds, you know? And here, you've achieved it before you've even graduated, clever girl. Just make sure some of this nurturing involves them sending you to Toronto to take part in some conference or something, hmmm?

Absolutely! I'll make it part of the deal.

Actually, I'm hoping to present at the Society for Psychotherapy conference next year... in Chile! I presented at the Scotland SPR conference and then at a conference in New Zealand last year--both of which were awesome--so here's hoping I can travel overseas again under the beautiful guise of work. :D

Thanks!

I wasn't sure whether to apply for the job at first, but I did at my boss's insistence, and once I wrote the application and went through the interview, the investment of myself in the process made me want it. So I was disappointed.

But it's mostly the stability that comes with a permanent position that I'll be missing out on. There's a lot to be said for sessional teaching. No boring meetings to attend; I just teach and leave!

I'm sorry you didn't get the job, but it looks like something really great came out of it anyways! When one door closes, another one opens :]

Hahaha, I've been laughing at these speculations of the world ending since yesterday. According to the Mayans it won't be until December of 2012. I figured only one of them could be right, and since the Mayans were pretty spot on about other things, I decided to go with ancient scientists rather than modern physicists, haha. I'm only joking, but this world-ending nonsense was quite amusing to me. And of course, only in our world would a story about Nicole Kidman make the headlines before anything else.

Right! I can't be downhearted for long when exactly what I decided I wanted (apart from lying on a beach and searching for the ultimate chocolate cake) is given to me on a platter, can I?

In fact, I'm really excited about it all now. I just hope private practice hours, research / PhD hours, and sessional teaching hours all... magically fit together! I have the Christmas holidays (3mths or so over here--it's summer) to work the first two out. The teaching will hopefully slip around the other two quite easily when it returns in late Feb 09. At least, that's what I keep telling myself. :D

It seems to have worked out just perfectly :] That's got to be very nice, indeed, considering things don't usually work out perfectly in life.

I'm sure once you get in the hang of things, the others will fall into place, as well. Once you get some sort of grip on what you need to do, you'll have an idea of how to work out the rest!

I wish you all the best!!!

Awww, damn it, what a shame you didn't get the lecturer position. Well, that just means on to bigger and better things, right?

Oh, and the perfect chocolate cake can be found at Augustine's restaurant on George Street in the form of a chocolate truffle cake that is to die for--honestly, it's better than sex even. Though it's been a while since I've been there so they may not even have it anymore. :-)

Oops, sorry, I forgot to sign in and so my comment went up as Anonymous. So, in case you didn't figure it out, it was little me. :-)

Hello! How are you?

Yes, sadly I did not get the job (I wanted it so that we could get our hands on that maternity leave! Not that we need it yet. But, you know, some time down the track.).

Chocolate cake at Augustine's, hey? Though it's been a while since I've been there so they may not even have it anymore. Hmm. I'm assuming you mean Augustine's, and not sex, here. (*grin*) Heh heh.

*snort* Actually, it's been awhile for that too. LOL. Split up from spouse in January, remember? And no prospects on the horizon. Am getting into old maid mode as we speak.
