Oops, it's been 4 months since I last updated y'all on what I've been reading/watching. Since it's been so long since I've read most of these books, here are some brief thoughts:

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
  • I think it was on the Daily Dot that I read about this, but apparently most critics dismiss Natasha as Eye Candy? Which makes no sense ( Read more... )

tv: hannnibal, books, book: obernewtyn chronicles, movie, tv: orphan black, tv: elementary, author: joey w hill

Because I already knew who the Winter Soldier was
Someone on my flist mentioned that, when she saw the movie, there were people who did NOT know, and we were both baffled about that because it's kinda obvious from the trailers. Though I read about the existence of the Winter Soldier right after Cap 1 was out, so I was all excited to see my beloved Sebastian Stan again when they announced that the 2nd movie would be CA: TWS. But really, how can people miss it from the trailers?

Why people leave at the beginning of Marvel credits baffles me.
Same here. Though this time people actually stayed for the first extra scene (for Thor 2, they kept leaving while the first scene was playing, WTF?). But then I was all alone for the second extra scene.

unless we're heading towards an X-Men/Avengers crossoverNope, because Fox has the X-Men rights, it's just that Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver are going to be in both universes, but it won't be mentioned in the Avengers movieverse that they're Magneto's kids. (Though from the X-Men trailer, I wonder ( ... )

Oooh, you know I'm not sure if I would've picked up Bucky is the Winter Soldier from the trailers, but I'm kinda dense. XD The Bucky = Winter Soldier was all over Tumblr though, so that's how I found out.

Omg, Sebastian Stan was so beautiful, would go again just to see him emote and angst. I also enjoy how much of him I've been seeing him on Tumblr.

And thanks for the headsup for the trailer info! I haven't stayed very current about the rights and what not.

Sebastian Stan is wonderful and has had so many gay roles that it's become pavlovian for me to slash any of his characters. A bit like when an anime character is voiced by Ishida Akira. XD

It's kind of a mess if you don't stay up to date with everything. Fox also has the rights for the Fantastic Four, which I don't care about because I hated the 90's cartoon. I only watched the first two movies on TV because there was Julian McMahon in them. I don't plan on ever watching more. And Sony has the rights for Spiderman, which I don't watch either. I watched the first trilogy on TV and now I just don't care any more. Just gimme space raccoons and tree trunks, now these are characters I don't know everything about yet.

Haha I had the same reaction when people left before the credits ended on Captain America. "Why are you leaving? Have you not noticed a trend in the Marvel movies by now?!" I assume the next preview was for Avengers 2, but I could be completely wrong ( ... )

Hmm, if you want to skip to the current stuff and have cable it might be on-demand for free? That's how I'm watching it. And I know the NBC website loads the most current episode online.

I saw your Goodreads post on Saga! It's what reminded me I needed to write this post! I'm hoping Marko and Alana don't die. D:

As for Divergent, it's not really a sex scene. It's the scene in her trial where Four's like "Let's have sex," and she's all "Um, thanks but no thanks; you're a hallucination." I've been seeing a lot of online articles about the scene in the movie, so I was curious.

Edit: Derp, I misread your response at first. I'm really anal about watching things in order, unfortunately. I don't think I could skip season 1 without feeling like I missed something.

I still barely remember that scene. I probably tuned some of it out because I don't care for their romance at all.

Hmmm, I think your cable provider might have all of S1 for free. Like, Comcast had all of Orphan Black up for S2's premier, and they might still have Hannibal S1 up?

I got through, according to my kindle, 80% of Divergent before I decided I didn't enjoy it. I think you articulated why precisely I disliked the book: the romance didn't feel natural or compelling (it didn't help that I found Tris boring as a narrator/character), the writing wasn't distinct, and the worldbuilding was flawed with regard to how nonsensical it was.

So many things! Particularly Hannibal. I'm loving it, though I also haven't seen the latest episode yet. I was saddened when Beverly died, but the actress seemed very cool with it, so I let it go. Hannibal/Alana, though. That's just going bad so fast. I'm thrilled at the possibility of angst. As for actual caring, I have none. I do love the show. It's beautiful and absorbing and soooo fascinating. WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT????

I'm glad Hetienne Park has been very gracious about her departure, but I'm still upset because killing off women and women of color is such a prevalent thing in TV that it's hard to treat this like an individual case.

I've seen some Tumblr posts and am curious wtf happens in this week's episode. Debating whether to watch that now or try and finish Inherit the Wind...

To your thoughts on the end scene from Cap 2: technically, the twins are the only characters that can be used by both Fox and Disney because the are both mutants and Avengers. Though, technically Disney can't call them mutants because Fox owns that term so that's why the end scene called them "magical" and puts the blame of their powers on magic/experiments rather than mutated genes.
