Check-in:
Spirituality! I think there's a generally positive upward trend. I'm not perfect, but I have accepted that I am not going to be perfect (and will likely be less perfect once Baby arrives), and I think it's going well. My individual work has been more or less consistent. My husband and I are doing better as a couple, which I think is good as well.
Fitness! Continues to be sort of a joke at this point. The doctor says I should be walking two miles a day for my health, even though walking for a long time super hurts. According to my step tracker, however, I am getting at least two miles a day, so there you go. That's not too bad.
Tidiness! This continues to go exceptionally well. My husband has been very helpful on this front, and it's much appreciated. This place is about half the size of our last, so it's easier to keep clean, and we have been sticking to our weekly chore schedule pretty well, so that helps. The dogs are alarmed at how often we vacuum, but we don't leave the house looking like crazy cat people with dog fur all over us, so that's a positive.
The Good:
Overall, things have been good. Really good. All reports from the doctors are that baby and I are doing well. We continue to get things arranged for transitioning to our new home - things like getting new driver's licenses, registering our cars, internet for our apartment (we lasted for one week with mobile hotspots and then caved and got real internet; hoping this can transfer to our new house).
Also, our old house is under contract for sale, and we put in an offer on a house out here, and it was accepted, so paperwork is flying back and forth, and all kinds of people are involved (out here they use lawyers instead of title officers and it goes much slower than back in UT), but we are very hopeful! The house we like is a bit rural, but quite close to neighbors (which Cody is not overly fond of) and has a big back yard for the dogs (which needs to be fenced) and also a workshop onsite (which Cody is quite fond of) and a large, mostly-finished basement with room for grandma's piano, plus my drums and also some of Cody's fitness equipment so he doesn't have to crowd it into his shop, and also my crafting supplies as well, so we are pretty excited. It's a nice house and I like the kitchen, and so I am pleased, and also this house is far more affordable than some others we've looked out (property taxes out here are insane compared to back in UT).
Some friends from back in UT are out east on their big family summer vacation (they homeschool their kids, so even though school isn't out, they're on summer vacation), and they stopped by and saw us for lunch, which was really awesome. Sara was one of my visiting teachers and also helped host a baby shower for me, and her twin boys were our dog walkers, and she's just had a baby herself, so she's been a great resource as far as preparing for a new baby. They're really wonderful people and I know we'll stay friends with them.
Cody and I went to the glass museum on Friday, because we had no appointments and he wanted to get out of the apartment, and we had lots of fun! I've been there before but of course the displays aren't always the same, and we had a good time.
Everyone at church is super nice! I suspect they don't get new people as often as we did back in UT (we got switches with every university semester, pretty much), so they're excited, but they're all also just very nice people. Plenty of them work at the same company Cody will work at - some are lawyers, some are scientists - and everyone is nice. We had dinner with one family last week, and another family has invited us to dinner this week. One man stopped by and talked to us for a long while. He's a professional artist, and he was super friendly. Also another lady had her baby blessed today, which means her baby will be about the same age as mine, so...play dates down the road.
Yes, I'm already thinking in that direction.
I wrote a bunch for the first time in a while, and that was really fun. I have missed writing and I was glad to get back to it.
Also, I've been reading a lot. Read some published books, also went back and revisited some old favorites, mostly in the HP fandom. I'd forgotten how much I love reading. It's been good times!
Cody and I have been watching the fights, which happen pretty much every weekend now that the UFC has signed on with ESPN, so that's been fun, and also surprisingly he's been into the second season of American Gods, so we watch that together as well. It's very different from the book and I'm not sure how much I like that, but so far the performances have been pretty awesome.
Best of all, I am over my stupid cold. So, so glad for that.
The Bad:
Honestly, there's not much. We forgot to hold back some baby stuff, and it's packed in storage and inaccessible, but my husband reckons we can limp by for a month till we get into our house (still crossing our fingers that our house back in UT sells so we can buy the house here).
It's damp and rainy here all the time, which makes things humid and my hair frizzy (as frizzy as hair like mine can get), but it's pretty and green, and I like it.
Dingo escaped from the dog park one night this week. I was out alone with him and Ivy and he wriggled under the chainlink fence and dashed off into the night. I had to summon Cody, who'd already changed for bed, and we went hunting in the dark with our flashlights on our phones. (We now have a better flashlight). Thankfully, the lojacks we bought for our dogs paid off, and we were able to track him down. He didn't get very far anyway.
Honestly, though, things here are going really well. We've had a chance to relax and work together to make this transition smooth, and I am grateful.
This week I have an ultrasound and another doctor appointment (weekly till baby arrives) and Cody has to go into the office to get started on some minor work admin things (like getting his work ID card sorted), but all in all this week will be pretty chill, and I am glad, because the week after that he starts work for real and my mother arrives.
Going to be an adventure.
Three weeks till baby arrives...
