We've moved into our house! Lots of things are still in boxes, but we've moved in. We got the kitchen, bedroom, and nursery unpacked first, as those were essential to survival, and we've moved in!
Also we cleaned up our old apartment and moved out. It was crazy expensive, but it was also fully furnished and that was so worth it, so we had relatively little to move. Ladies from church helped me do the final clean-up, and we did good enough to get our deposit back! Final inspection was today. Life is pretty good.
Everyone at church has been amazing. On the 4th, we overslept (our stuff was delivered to the house on the 3rd; my husband took the 3rd and 5th off to effectuate the move, because his supervisors are awesome) and missed the church breakfast, but a couple invited us over and made breakfast for us. All for the price of some baby snuggles. Another couple came to help us unbox. What was most helpful was one of them held Olivia so I could unbox things (it's easier if we do it since we know where stuff goes, but having another man around to help Cody lift stuff while I'm still recovering from surgery was also invaluable).
Another couple from church volunteered to babysit Olivia for a few hours tonight so Cody and I can go on a date. I am pretty excited, no lies. Again, all for the price of some baby cuddles.
We've pretty much been living off of the frozen meals my mom made for us before Olivia was born, but the kitchen is almost useable again. Trying to time the making of meals has been a bit harder, but I've managed to do a lot of the major admin stuff, like getting trash service set up and arranging for lawn service and also calling around to contractors to see about fixing the power in the workshop.
Best of all, we have our piano again! It's terribly out of tune, and I need to call a tuner now that it's had some time to adjust to the elevation and humidity here. I have unlocked new parenting skills, and I can rock Olivia in her car seat or bouncy seat with one foot while I play the piano. Maybe it's less of a parenting skill and more of an extension of my drumming skills, but it's handy, so I can practice songs. As predicted, pianists for church are thinner on the ground out here than back in Utah, where you can't turn around without running into someone who plays the piano or violin or is a singer, so having a few hymns polished for emergencies is a good idea. Also Cody and I can start playing music together. Olivia doesn't get at all fussy when we play, so the sound doesn't bother her, and that's good.
I've managed to eke out a few words of fiction here and there, but mostly these days to decompress I watch ridiculous amounts of K-drama. I'm watching Absolute Boyfriend, which is ongoing (but almost done). I watched all of My ID Is Gangnam Beauty (and, okay, I'm on an Aroha kick now, don't judge me, I'm watching every Cha Eunwoo drama I can get my hands on and no one can stop me! At first I didn't think much of him but he's grown on me, okay?), and all of Revenge Note 1, and I'm in the middle of Orange Marmalade (Monsta X did one of the soundtrack songs, and okay, after Absolute Boyfriend I'm also on a bit of a Yeo Jingoo kick too, all right?)
The nice thing about K-dramas is that I can watch them on my phone while I rock Olivia to sleep if she's extra fussy, and if I forget my earbuds, it's fine - she sleeps through them half the time anyway, or I can mute and then just use the subtitles.
I am vaguely worried about messing with Olivia's language development, but...whatever. She will be Monbebe and maybe Aroha and also love K-dramas as well. It's fine.
(I wondered about this on Stargate Atlantis, too. Will Baby Torren's language development be messed up?)
We are turning our house into a home. Cody's organizing his martial arts training space in the basement (the matting I can also use for dance), and we bought a new couch so we can watch MMA fights (we celebrated our first night sleeping in the house by watching some epic fights, although I fell asleep before the main event lol). I finally picked a decoration theme for Olivia's nursery and the decorations arrived (Amazon Prime for the win, seriously).
Pretty much what keeps me sane these days is my darling friends
brumeier and
sherlockian_syn, the trio of young moms I text with, and phone calls with my mom, and K-dramas and K-pop.
The other night Cody was watching Olivia while I ran to the store for some supplies and the entire time I kept imagining I could hear her fussing in the back seat. I think that was a sign.
Once the house is really settled in, I hope to build a routine for me and Olivia that involves us going out for fun. There are some local farmers markets that look like a good time and happen at least every week, and I want to check those out, and we live near some nice wooded areas, and going out for walks would be nice.
Also...also I might be getting a calling at church, so that could also mean me getting out one night a week and leaving Olivia with Cody, which could be nice. When the guy in the bishopric mentioned it he was like...you don't want a moment to think about it?
Nope.
Plus I'll know which teenage girls in the branch will be trustworthy babysitters.
Adulting continues to be wild, and some days I cry and some days (like today) are awesome, but I am doing my best to take it one day at a time, so here goes!
