The last week or so has been...ordinary, really. I think Miss Boo has settled into a weird sleep pattern, which is to go to bed around 8, sleep for 8 hours, wake up for a snack, and then sleep for a couple more hours. Only I fail at falling back to sleep after the snack, so really I should just get up and do my own thing for a couple hours till the rest of the household wakes up.
We've had some crazy rain here, and the leaves are falling like mad. Our neighbors helped us bag up our leaves after the yard crew piled them up. It was super sweet of them. We must have had a couple dozen bags when all was said and done. Also I was crazy to think I could do it myself before it got dark. People here continue to be super nice.
With the rain I've had migraines on and off, which has made me a bit of a miserable bear, but oh well.
I have been helping my sister with her math homework (she wants to go back to school to become a nurse and is studying for the entrance exam) and I am remembering that despite the stereotype that we go to law school because we're bad at math (IP and tax attorneys not withstanding), I actually like math and I'm pretty good at it (maybe not on timed tests, but I applied to a maths program at Cambridge and got in for a reason). My husband, who likes to teach Miss Boo science and math while he's cuddling her, found a YouTube channel all about cool math stuff, and I've started watching it, and...oh man. I'd go back to school for math if I could. (If I got a degree in math I might be able to take the patent bar and...I'm getting ahead of myself but whatever.)
We finally arranged for doggie boarding school and plane tickets so we can head back west for Christmas, so that's good.
We are making progress on the house. Started speeding up unpacking in the basement and also I had plans to put together the furniture for the guest room but Miss B was fussy today and also the power tools needed their battery packs recharged and I could not find the chargers and then it started raining super hard and I had zero plans to go out to the workshop in this weather. I finally got all my dance costumes unpacked, and I tried out my veil fans, and Miss Boo liked those. I also tested out my zills, and she didn't mind the sound of those. I need to polish them and adjust the elastic on them, and once I do I can get back to dancing. Veil work and most prop work takes a lot of arm strength. Also I like dancing with zills.
My house is never cleaner than in the five minutes before a guest arrives, so I've been doing my best to keep it clean. It's going to look awesome for when
sherlockian_syn gets here a week from tomorrow! We have big plans to nerd out over SGA and K-pop (although our favorite K-pop band is going through rocky times right at the start of promos for their most recent comeback, which made me sad, but my second-favorite band just started airing a new cute little webdrama, and also might have their next comeback next month?)
Cody continues to work hideously late nights at the lab. It's not as bad as grad school for him, but in some ways it's harder for me because I literally have NO BREAKS from Miss Boo. The last time I had a break from her knowing that someone else was keeping an eye on her (and I wasn't keeping an ear out for her during a nap or something) was when he played with her for like twenty minutes one night before he had to go back to the lab. I love being a stay-at-home mom and I have my awesome online best buds who help keep me sane, but some days it's crazy-making anyway.
Young Women is going well. Last week we carved pumpkins and decorated Halloween cookies. This week there was volleyball practice and caramel apples. It's always nice for me even if I bring Miss Boo with me (if Cody isn't working late he watches her for me) because I can talk to the other ladies (also the girls will hold Miss Boo and play with her so that's nice).
Yesterday Miss B and I took a trip to downtown so I could pick up some paperwork from the law office that handled the closing on our house, and also I bought some new dishes at the factory store as my anniversary present). It was nice weather, and also I visited a bunch of Pokestops and caught a lot of Pokemon, which is nice, because our house is a Pokemon dead zone, and the only other place I go on the regular that has Pokemon is church.
Overall life has been the same old same old, though. Sleep deprivation. House cleaning. Keeping an eye on the dogs. Keeping the baby alive. Bingeing on K-drama and K-pop. The drama I'm watching currently, Tale of Nokdu, may be my favorite yet. Light-hearted cuteness plus historical intrigue (that isn't just endless old Korean men shouting at the king and each other). It breaks a lot of the rules about K-drama conventions (the king isn't the ultimate evil! The second lead flower boy is actually the villain! The hero isn't a jerk to the girl! The girl isn't spineless!), and also it has killer cliffhangers.
Here's to hanging in there for another week, keeping Miss B alive, not losing any dogs, and writing some words.
