What's also funny about Rome/China is that, if you look at poetry dating around the time of Augustus, you get stuff like, "AND WE'RE GONNA TAKE OVER INDIA AND CHINA~ YAAAAAAY~" If you've ever seen a map of Rome (I believe it was its biggest under Hadrian: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c1/Roman_Empire_under_Hadrian.png ), you can see that it's nowhere near India and China; they couldn't deal with the Parthians, much less the Chinese (it took me a moment to realize why spell check hates "Parthians"). So in other words, in this pairing anyway, CHINA actually tops, despite being the girlier of the two. :'D
