Today is Himchan’s birthday. He’s turning 35, but everything feels monotonous. He’s sitting on his balcony, looking at the sunset again. It always reminds Himchan of a dying fire. Bright red, orange, and yellow. Calming and sad. It is something that was full of life and is now burning out.

Ever since Yongguk left for the war, Himchan always look at the sunset. It used to remind him of them. Fiery, full of love and passion and deep kisses and make up sex. It was the time when he felt the most alive, the most needed, the most wanted. But now, he’s decaying in the routine of everyday life. Himchan knows that Yongguk is never coming back. He’s never going to feels Yongguk’s warmth, see his beautiful gummy smile, hear his deep kind voice, smell his musky scent, and taste his sweet sweet tongue. Himchan has accepted it when he was told that Yongguk died from a landmine, when he saw Yongguk’s coffin being pulled down into the earth, when he packed Yongguk’s things into a box because a dull knife was cutting his heart whenever he saw them.

The amount of time that Himchan locked himself in his room was unhealthy. He stopped talking and looking at the sunset. He did not eat nor sleep. He did not laugh nor cry. It was to the point where Daehyun had to asked his landlord to unlock Himchan’s apartment, because he knew that Himchan was not going to open it himself. It was the lowest point of Himchan’s life, but as time goes by, he slowly gets better. He starts talking and eating and smiling (he stopped feeling pain, he stopped feeling sadness, he stopped hopeless, he stopped feeling love, he stopped feeling happiness, he stopped feeling).
