Midsummer and cars

Jun 27, 2007 10:17

Midsummer was last weekend and it went by quickly. The weather was mostly great, warm and sushine-y on Friday, a little less warm on Saturday and Sunday. There was eating of tortillas and chili tomato soup and vegetables and strawberry pie and ice cream during the weekend. Delicious stuff.

Friday was especially memorable. Good food, drinks, and in the evening we went to sit by the Aura river. The water was almost completely still and it was pretty. We sat under a small hill and there were some people hanging out on top of it... and very randomly, a sausage came rolling down the hill! Something brown flashed at the corner of my eye and then we all jumped up to see what had happened. It was a barbecued sausage. Well, Luna the dog enjoyed it, the rest of us were confused.

After the others had left, around midnight or a little after, Joe and I stayed behind and sat at the river until 2 am, I think. Couldn't see the sunrise, but the traces of the sunset didn't seem to disappear either. There was female bonding and it was all around very nice except that it started to get cold and there were mosquitoes and so we finally got up. Went back inside after a short walk to a bridge and back. Got to bed around 4 am.

I returned home on Sunday. Cats had behaved pretty well while I was gone. Didn't have to clean floors at all, except for a box full of cotton sticks that was lying upside down, sticks scattered around. For some reason the cats think that cotton sticks are the greatest toys ever.

I am having the 7 am morning shift at work this week, which means getting up around 4:50 am. One would think I'd be completely tired like usual during this shift, but no, mum saved me by giving me some sleeping pills for this week. It'd be nearly impossible to fall asleep around 9 pm when it's still totally light outside, but with the pills I manage and then I even feel mostly awake the next day. This is great.

Yeah, yeah, don't worry, I'm not going to get addicted to them if I use them for 4 days.

On another note, mum said she could sell her car to me if I want to buy it. It's only 1,5 years old so she said she doesn't want to give it to me for free, but I could buy it off her with 10 000 euros (and then she'd buy a new one herself). If I paid her 200-300 euros a month, I could pay it in 3-4 years. Welcome to adult life. Eeks. But it sounds really great, because if and when I move to Turku in the autumn, a car would be a very useful thing to have. I doubt public transportation in Turku is as good as it is in here and it might cause troubles. Also, it's cheaper to drive to Helsinki to visit people than it is to go by train, as in gasoline costs less than the train tickets. At least for now. I could also consider looking for jobs from e.g. Salo as well, because I could get there pretty easily with a car.

Just have to get a job when the time comes so I'll see if I'll have money to pay for the car costs and stuff.

I am going to Japan in a week and a half. Starting to panic. What to pack, what kind of clothes to take with me? I hear it'll probably be hot and humid, so I should pack many tops. Should actually buy some too. Perhaps new shoes as well. Wah! How much money? pteek, ranilos, any advice on how you managed money? Ah, nevermind, I'll just comment on your journals. You might miss this one.

Lunchtime, finally!
