Middle-school attire

On this damp 39º day, my daughter walked to school in her winter coat . . . . and flip-flops.

Right. Sounds like something Gabriel would do. Is she generally weatherproof?

Not so much weatherproof, but she is generally my most sensible child - or was, before puberty :)

Yes, but are her toenails properly painted?

Natch! Currently they are bright red :) She is embracing the middle-school concern for appearances with open arms.

:D That is great! Bright red is perfect for this time of year.

It makes my toes cold just to think about!

Which reminds me. Why oh why is it such a big deal for kids to zip their coats? As an adult, I *heart* having my yummy down coat zipped all the way up to my chin, but I vividly remember refusing to zip up as a kid...

Well, I won't speak for all kids, but when I was a kid I just got too hot with it zipped up. Still do, most of the time; I am, as several people have attested, a heater; I'm generally warmer than most people in cold places.

High on the list of reasons I like boys: They're commonly exothermic! (I'm cold most of the time.)

Note to self: Snuggle up to docorion next time I'm chilly at a party.

Good lord. If I recall correctly, she's about the same age as my daughter (11 and a half, plus a bit) - this is what I have to look forward to, isn't it:?

Laura turned 12 in March, so yes, if your daughter's not exhibiting this behavior yet, she probably will be soon :)
