Apparently some new quest that starts in Dalaran in 3.2.2 will explain about Night Elf Mages slightly. They have one in currently that a Tauren questions about using the Light.

And I don't think the BE population will hurt too much. =p We're still pretty.

Plus BE Warriors. Imagine the BE ladies holding two 2h weapons. They can barely hold one!
