I had an interview on Tuesday. It was really a great firm. Intellectual Property Practice, Laid Back Atmosphere, Bling-Bling; the whole bit. I was very enthused; so much so that I immediately ran home, after working at my temporary job for eleven hours, - immediate is what you make of it - and wrote thank you notes. Well, yes and no. The hiring statistics for 2003 seems to suggest that firms only hired 1/2 as many people as they did in the prior year. My personal experience is that the trend is continuing. On the other hand, there seems to be no lack of good paying temporary positions; and I get the distinctive feeling from recent conversations with classmates hired as permanent attorneys at smaller firms that I have the better deal.
