School conferences and Thanksgiving "vacation"

I don't get it. I honestly don't get it. WHY in the world did the school district make the schedule like this, this year? Honestly, makes no sense.

This week:

Monday: School - all grades.
Tuesday: No school kindergarten BUT the bus came and took my eldest son to school (he's in kindergarten) then returned him home 45 minutes later. THANKFULLY my mother came home right as the bus dropped him off because I was in the bathroom getting dressed. Normal school hours for the rest of the kids, twins go to pre-school today at normal time as well.
Wednesday - Friday: No school for anyone.

Next week:
Monday - Tuesday: All grades attend classes.
Wednesday: Only morning kindergarten attends along with remaining grades BUT it's early release so they get out at 10:22 AM. (School starts at 8:35 AM)
Thursday: Thanksgiving
Friday: No school

Ok, thanks to NEXT week's schedule, my eldest will be not be earning her Attendance Award this year because I've agree to let her spend Thanksgiving this year with her papa and his family in Utah. They're driving on Friday (THIS Friday) to get there by Monday (they should be there by Saturday if the passes are ok). They'll be spending the week with his family including his mother (who is flying in from Florida), his grandmother (her great-grandma) and his great-grandma (her great-great-grandma). His grandfather (her great-grandpa) is dying so this is the last year they expect him to be with the family. He's met her only one other time so I felt as if I owed her the chance to meet him when she could remember him as the last time he saw her she was only two-years-old.

At any rate, WTF was the school district thinking? "Oh let's cancel classes for the majority of the month but stick random classes in between those days". Why not just give the kids those three days off (well two and a quarter)? Or why not just do parent-teacher conferences on those three days instead? Wouldn't it have been simpler to have school this week and cancel classes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and hold conferences then instead of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of THIS week?

I swear, the school board must be on drugs.
