Effects: Nostalgia bombs eeeeverywhere.

--

Your siblings are gathered around a chessboard, watching intently as Schneizel and Lelouch engage in a battle of wits. Age and experience are surely on his side, and Schneizel pulls out the victory once more. Everyone cheers for a game well played, and you all disperse slowly -- perhaps it's duty which calls your older siblings away, leaving you alone with Nunnally and Lelouch. There's a twinge of sadness when you aren't all together anymore, but now the three of you are walking hand in hand through the gardens with Consort Marianne, smiles glued to your faces and makeshift daisy chains threaded in your hair -- the sadness is easily forgotten.

The garden doesn't change, but you do the slightest bit in those next few months, and now it's your dearest sister Cornelia lying on the grass with you -- giggling as though you're both seven without a worry in the world. These are your favourite moments, cherished memories of simpler times.

It could never last. You know what's coming next, and you will your mind to skip over the horrific death of Lady Marianne (to no avail), which left dear Nunnally crippled, blind, and without a home as she and Lelouch were sent away for reasons you had yet to understand. It wasn't something a nine year old should have to bear. The next few years are a blur, which you see as a relief, since you'd rather not relive them at all.

Yes, a few years have gone by, but you're still that same innocent little girl of seven somewhere deep inside. You're sheltered, and more than a bit naive, but you're far from incompetent. When news reaches you of Clovis' murder, you're suddenly nine again, losing a dear sibling once more -- and this time, it is forever. There's solace to be found in the news that you'll be joining Cornelia in Area 11 as Sub-Viceroy (not that you'll ever be more than a figurehead, you know), but the cost is invariably too high. You'd never say it out loud, but you fear that you're losing Cornelia and Schneizel just as you've lost Clovis, Nunnally and Lelouch in the past -- only this time it's to duty. Loneliness is a frequent companion these days, but you mask it well.

It all changes the day you meet the boy that believes just as strongly as you do -- Suzaku. He makes you feel as though you can change the world if you try hard enough, and that's why you make him your Knight -- why you decide you love him at that point in time. But when you meet Nunnally and Lelouch again, you're sure that your heart is going to explode from the sheer joy of it all -- and suddenly, you're lying in the flower gardens at the palace, seven again.

[The princess awakens slowly, a content smile making its way to her face as she sits up. She giggles lightly before speaking, as if to herself.]

It feels as though I've been asleep for a month!

[In all actuality, it's been a little over three weeks, but... details.]
