So, I've been watching Eva on Adult Swim lately, and I have to say, the dub really hasn't aged well. I mean, sure, by the later episodes it had smoothed out quite a bit, but even there, you can tell how miscast it was, especially in the extras department. Yeah, what can I say, I was feeling nostalgic. That, and I was listening to my old EVER ANIME Gundam Wing CD. Man, that show had some pretty kickass background music. I can understand why they had to remove it from Cartoon Network back in 2001, what with the main characters basically being terrorist bombers and all. Times, they certainly a-changed.

Two-Mix was quite awesome. I love that one of the singers from it was also Dilandau from Escaflowne. Minami Takayama, or something along those lines. Maybe I'll look it up in a bit on Hitoshi Doi's site to make sure. And that's *another* thing that takes me back to the late nineties. So many memories. I never could stand the Eva dub :( I mean, in the days of Internet Animu Message Board Yore, I was horribly rabid pro-subs, but something about the dubbing seemed, then and now, like something terrible to do. Like taking "Yakkety Sax" from Benny Hill and playing it entirely in MIDI format. I still won't touch a lot of dubs, on the occasion I watch Animu anymore ("One Piece," for instance, makes my skin crawl when it's dubbed and editted), but I don't mind when they're well done.

This makes me want to take the time to download clean copies of the Evangelion remasters and watch them to see how well the series itself has aged. Oh, Eva Board, Godspeed you.

Yeah, the One Piece dub is rather cringe-worthy, especially with all the little cuts and edits done to it in order to sanitize it for Toonami. Kinda reminds me of the bad old days of DiC's Sailor Moon *shudder* The more things change, the more they stay the same...

I've thought of it more akin to the old DBZ rape, what with the digital manipulation and all. Especially since One Piece resembles DBZ more closely than it does SM, what with the copious amounts of drawn-out fight scenes and terrible filler arcs. I'm really not much of a fan of the show. I like the Manga a lot, though. It's faster-paced and the art conveys the fights well. Also I can get it for free on the internets.

If you want truly horrendous, find the combination live-action and new animation preview that Saban did when they were trying to get ahold of the Sailor Moon license in the US. Christ in a fucking Dufflebag, THAT was horrifying. One of the Sailor Scouts was in a wheelchair.

I've read some of the English version of Shonen Jump, and I get that impression as well, both for One Piece and Naruto. Heck, I knew about filler arcs back in the days of my Ranma fandom, so I can't say as I'm surprised by it. Makes me glad for all the GNs I own :)

As for the Saban stuff...

...there are some horrors man was not meant to know.
