what you're going through is quite normal, but always hard to deal with. In many respects it is all just "how you feel." kind of like how some people feel that they'll marry the girl their dating, but looking back they realized they were just in love, and it was the kind of emotion they feel later on about other people.
Ryan and you have been good for eachother in many respects. You've experienced things with him in your life that you probably won't with other people (hopfully all good).
But all relationships are based on trust, and while you and he might feel a stronger connection between you guys than friends would have, the fact is that you guys can't be in a realtionship longer for other reasons.
I personally know you'll find someone else. There are a lot of things about you for a guy to like, it's just a matter of getting over him. Maybe you aren't ready to date again right away. Maybe take some time off of it for a while. Either way, it'll work out in the end, and you'll come out ahead.
