There is only one more poetic place in the entire world I can think of, and that is Texas. But Nevada--Nevada is all desert. Outside of those few square miles, there is nothing. The entire state screams of putrid desperation, but more importantly, it begets hunger.
Paradoxically, the foundations of Las Vegas are built upon luck.
