Don't let it get you down. Just see where this new self-awareness leads you, and trust in your friends to help you how they can. I don't think you ever knew Naum Panovski, but one of his favorite sayings applies: Deese tings take time! You have to bake like de bread! You have to make the dough, and kneeeed it, and put it in de oven! You cannot microwave it! :-)

If you think about it, we associate walls with something that keeps people out. But walls can also be something more asthetic than functional. Look at the Great Wall of China. People are amazed by it, and originally it was meant to keep others out. Now, it draws them in.
I'm not saying it's totally healthy to keep your distance, because I know keeping your distance can be very lonely. But appreciate this uniqueness in you for what it is, no matter who tells you how wrong it is. In the end, even the walls are part of the house.
