Frugality Doesn't Come Cheap
I am cheap. When shopping for items such as... let's say toothpaste, I scan the prices, choosing the lowest and then looking on the shelf above to see where my brand loyalty lies this week. It normally turns out to be UltraBrite, which is just fine with me. I squeeze the tube, it oozes out and remains on the brush as it ( Read more... )

Ice cream is another thing that you really have to be careful about buying the cheap stuff. Some of it is okay . . . some of it they use way too much carageenan, and it's all squishy, or something. It's of course best if you make your own, but that is really expensive.

Q-Tips, definitely. Particularly if you're using them for BABIES.:-P

I don't shave. It makes it much easier to decide which razors to buy.

NOTHING beats homemade ice cream. We used to have an old fashioned hand-crank ice cream maker when we were kids.

Hee. I don't really hate babies as much as all that. I just can't stand loud, high-pitched sounds or food dirt. Otherwise they're fine.

I can't stand not to shave. But I hardly ever shave my legs. ;o)

In spite of the fact that claudrainsrm is involved, I think you could win LJIdol with this post. It's funny, brilliant, and packed with truthiness & flouride.

I am teh suck at commenting, I know, but I do so love reading your LJ. :)

I switched to an old fashioned doubleedged safety razor for that reason:
its a MUCH better shave (!)
it lasts longer (2 wks per blade)
its far less expensive (4 months of blades is $2 bucks)
Less disposal - reducing our throwaway plastic
can be resharpened in a pinch.

I went with one from Merkur.

Also, can make your own toothpaste for much less.
I have a post on the toothpaste recipe on our "family friendly" LJ:

A safety razor wouldn't, um... cut it for what I'M shaving. Heh.

I have looked for them before for my husband, though.

I'd just assume spend 98¢ on a tube of paste rather than bother with mixing up my own. But cool to know.

You must have an earth-friendly lifestyle, no?

So I've noticed. It may work though, youd be surprised. Keep it up, by the way. ;)

I recommend the Merkur for yer man, if you're lookin. they're nice.

Sarah and I are *Striving* to be more in tune with our environment, but its definitely a learning curve.

Speaking of curves, we have Sandy Hook, the largest legal public nude beach on the coast, about 45 minutes away. on the other hand, its damn cold half of the year. :) Its always wierd to see the rangers, tourists and lifeguards wandering around among 2,000 nekkid folks. :)
