About Valentine's Day
Sure, I enjoy it. I like passing out grade school-style valentines and conversation hearts to my adult friends. But I also think it's a holiday of immeasurably stupid proportions. No, I'm not saying this out of bitterness or because of some bad memory from Valentine's days past. To the contrary, I've always had fairly decent ( Read more... )

It's really a non-holiday to me as well, but it makes me sad when my single friends start feeling lonely because of this stupid day.

I so agree with your statement:
If we want to celebrate our love for our partners, that's what anniversaries are for.

I too call it the hallmark holiday.

No holiday is too special to be made into a gaudy consumer whore.

Except Thanksgiving. They haven't figured out a way to do that yet. They've tried, but it's not catching on.

And make all your valentine presents, if you do give them, consumables...that's the way to avoid increasing the landfill...

I suggest chocolate.

Indeed, all holidays are commercialized, but this one just gets my goat because it unnecessarily excludes single people. The tackiness just adds to the fun of the rant. :oD

They can't commercialize Thanksgiving because it's not a gift holiday. But it is a FOOD holiday and they whore that out pretty well. :oP

They do.

There is an actual limit as to how much a person can eat, unlike any other type of item, so their success has some built in limits. Not that they don't try.

And yeah, being single on Valentine's Day is irritating, at the least. Not because of being single necessarily but because of the second rate citizen message.
