I’ve had that happen a time or two this year: getting well past the halfway point of a book and having it shift suddenly from “I’m really enjoying this” to “ugh, that’s not what I was wanting or expecting.” And, even if I happen to share the political beliefs being expounded in a book, I don’t want them interrupting my recreation time, unless the addition is very, very subtle. So I definitely see why you don’t plan to read any more books by this author. What a shame.
I've come across a few people who have said the same thing about political views suddenly popping up. And like you & me, it doesn't matter if you agree with the view or not, I don't want or need it in fiction. This wasn't subtle . . . It is a shame. It does tend to put me off more modern books :-(
What a disappointment! The book did sound like it would be pretty interesting, though I think, for me, there would be too much suspending of belief. I just don't see the group living like that. The place would get pretty odorous after awhile.
LOL... No eye rolling from me, M'dear. I'm every bit as bad with countless other things. As you know I struggled with AC this year and probably will not finish it. 😢 Two things: it's maybe not a good idea to do the same challenge two years in a row. And secondly, I think we decided on 10 to 12 books and perhaps that's too many. Maybe limit it to 6 another time? Much less pressure if you realise you're not enjoying it as much as you thought.
As to the book, what a shame it turned into such a political rant! Really sorry to hear that and also that bits of it defied belief, like the knickers issue. Rather strange that a female author would write that, tbh.
Thank you, m'dear, for not eye rolling. Well that is true; we can be bad together *g* Yes, I do know you've struggled with the AC challenge *Hugs* I agree with both of your points. Ten to twelve doesn't sound all that many, but it is really. Six would be a better number.
It really was such a shame and unnecessary :-( It wasn't needed. I did indeed wonder why a female author would write a situation where people couldn't change/wash their clothes.
