So I went to the midnight premiere of The Last Airbender last night! Overall, my feelings about it are definitely more positive than they are negative. I'll be honest, I'm not sure yet that I can definitely say that I liked it; however, I'm seeing it again on Friday when kyatto gets down here so I'll have more organized thoughts after that, I'm sure ( Read more... )

jackson is extra lovely, geekery, my thoughts let me show you them, movie reviews, avatar

I SAW IT LAST NIGHT TOOOOOO. I can't remember the last time I've seen so many fucking people at a premiere. Most of them were high schoolers which just irritated the fuck out of us. I went with a group of friends so we were like OH MY GOD SHUT THE FUCK UP JESUS CHRIST.

Anyway! I'd told you before that I don't like the Airbender toon. But I absolutely loved the movie, in all honesty. I loved it so much that I'm giving the cartoon another try! I'm on episode 5 and so far I prefer the movie over the cartoon. The toon is just too silly for me, and I don't care for silliness. The kids are slightly annoying in the toon, too. BUT! It's tolerable. I'm excited for the next movie. The fight scenes in Airbender were so amazing bdsavghfds.

I WANT TO BE A BENDER. ;__;

I can understand why hardcore fans of the toon didn't like the movie as much, but since I never liked the toon to begin with, I don't feel bad for loving it LMFAO. I'm very happy I paid to see this movie. I'm glad you felt more positive than negative about it!! ♥

A lot of what it seems the fans are whining about is things like changed pronunciations of names or specific characters being cut out of the film, and with a few notable exceptions (LIKE SUKI, WTF) they're understandable - if you've bothered to read any of the interviews M. Night's done over the last several months. Which is retarded, but this is Avatar fandom, so there you go.

Here's what I'm curious to know - as someone who's NOT a fan of the original series, was there anything that stood out to you as being at all confusing, or weird, or whatever?

I saw the whining about the pronunciations, which is retarded. He changed them so they were accurate since the fucking cartoon doesn't pronounce them right. I don't blame him at all. 8| I only know who Suki is because I just saw her in an episode. You think she'll be in the next movie, maybe? And I did read an interview this morning! One where he was defending people calling him a racist.

In the movie? Not at all! I honestly thought things were pretty damn clear for people who don't know the series to follow.

I sure hope she is, because she and the other Kyoshi Warriors are integral to the plot later on. Things happen that they need the Kyoshi Warriors in there for unless they're planning to rewrite things.

THERE WAS NO SUKI.

THERE WAS NO SUKI.

THERE WAS NO SUKI.

WHAT

GODDAMNIT I WAS REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING SUKI. And really, the DVD kinda has to have the deleted Kyoshi Warrior stuff, because how else are Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee gunna sneak into Ba Sing Se in the next movie?

Hnnngh I don't care about the bad things I am still seeing this movie. I can't fucking wait to see how hot (lol pun) the chick playing Azula is.

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII KNOW. IT MAKES NO SENSE. That, I think, is going to be the big thing that pisses me off about this movie. I know Jun wasn't in it, either, but quite frankly she's not THAT key to the plot. Suki is.

Personally, I'm holding out hope for an extended edition DVD.

Yeeeah. I mean, Jun is easy to replace since if they try to stay with the canon way of tracking Iroh down, they could just find some random other bounty hunter to help them or something. But Suki (or even just the Kyoshi Warriors in general) is much more important, since she/they are very highly respected warriors that live on a ~secluded island~ so it would've been easy to walk in dressed as them and not worry about being examined too closely.

Also, I just thought of a funny thing: If they go with canon and do Earth Rumble as the way to introduce Toph in the next movie, they need to cast The Rock as THE BOULDER.

Yepyep. The Jun thing is easy to get around. The Kyoshi Warriors? Not so much.

LMFAO OMG YES
