Am I the only person who thinks this series is just plain weird? To say that I'm not impressed with it is an understatement. And to be perfectly honest, I am only still watching to see Craig Parker (Darken Rahl-the horrible villian). Spoilers and my negative opinion follow...
Like I said, I'm only still watching to see Craig. But he hasn't been on since the premiere! Even though it's getting harder and harder to watch with each episode, I'll still tune in just in case he shows up.
I haven't read the book (or books?) that this series is based on, and I'm not sure I want to, even though I am a fan of the fantasy genre. The hero is ok, but his two allies are the pits! The wizard is just too weird (in the premiere, he's first seen holding a chicken to hide his genetalia while he's sitting on a rock stark naked under a full moon talking to himself). The other ally is a young lady, the Confessor. I always thought that the good guys promote saving people's lives, but in the second episode she actually gets pissed off at the hero because he wants to save a girl's brother! She actually tells him that the life of one person (the girl's brother) is not worth the risk he would be taking! I yelled at the tv when she said that!
I read a review somewhere that compared "The Legend Of The Seeker" to "Star Wars" and "The Lord Of The Rings". The writer said he/she was sure that somewhere down the road it would be revealed that the wizard is the hero's real father. In the latest episode it was revealed that no, he's not his father, but his grandfather! This was after several conversations about him not being another boy's father because he used "magical protection". Magical protection?!?!?!?!? Give me a break!
The pictures of Craig as the villain, Darken Rahl, are so gorgeous! And it was so wonderful to watch him in the pilot episode! He is absolutely delicious as a villain and I want to see more of him!!!!!! Even though I know that in the ultimate battle between Darken Rahl and The Seeker, Darken Rahl will die, I still want them to get to it and quit pussy-footing around! And like I did when Haldir died in "The Two Towers", I will cry buckets, even though Darken Rahl deserves his fate and Haldir certainly did not!
I think most of the fiction writers here on LJ could write better scripts in their sleep! Most of the dialogue, not to mention the actors' delivery, is a weird cross between historical fantasy and modern day. If the characters dressed in modern clothes the dialogue and story would still make sense. Maybe that's the problem I have with the whole thing: it can't decide if it's historical or modern.
If this series doesn't get cancelled, I'll be really surprised. But I WANT TO SEE CRAIG AGAIN FIRST!!!!!!!!
