Hey, I have a question. What artist would serve as a good introduction to the Japanese music scene? Not necessarily the ever popular J-pop, just something J-good.

Pizzicato Five, especially their mid-90s stuff onward. Happy End of the World is a good place to start. The group's since broken up, sadly.

Hope you can alleviate your boredom; I often find myself in a similar boat these days.

Also: a band called Do As Infinity. The group has *also* since broken up.

More recent stuff... look to THE BACK HORN, the pillows... hm. Stay away from visual kei at all costs, because they spend more time pretending to be gay with each other on stage than actually making music.

Where J-music wins is *mixing*; you'll notice a lot of the vocalists aren't really that good. It's just the mixing and presentation is a winnar.
