Why I'm Buying a Playstation 3

Jul 12, 2007 15:54

Now, the PS3 is still not a system I would recommend for everyone. However, I have realized that I now fit into the system's target market: I own an HDTV, and I take advantage of online capabilities. I used to scoff at a need for such things, but now that I'm in the cool crowd I am frothing for more ways to take advantage of both. If you can't ( Read more... )

"It's also a good idea to buy a 60GB PS3 now before that software backwards compatability included in the 80GB seeps into the 60GB's."

I already mentioned that! You didn't read all of my post ;_;

But yeah, I watched the Mass Effect trailer. Looking great and very epic. Unfortunately, I really hated how Bioware paced their three original Xbox RPGs, and won't let myself get excited until I have confirmation that this game feels entirely different. I know the combat is vastly different, but the way NPC conversations move so slowly, the cookie-cutter "good guy or bad guy" options, the long loading times...no me gusta.

It looks like we may be going the Wii60 route (Jeff needs his GTA IV, and Blue Dragon would be a nice bonus for me-oh, and Eternal Sonata), and the only PS3 game I'm really interested in is White Knight Story (which, I agree, looks sexy as fuck).

The DS is shaping up to be my system of choice come this fall, though. There'll be Professor Layton, Front Mission, Gyakuten Saiban 3, and Sonic Rush Adventure, for starters, plus I still haven't played Hotel Dusk and need (need!) to pick up Planet Puzzle League sometime.

As for the Wii... *cough*Boogie*cough*

....Boogie!? If I didn't know any better, I'd call you a filthy non-gamer right here!

Actually, it does have the most interesting visual style I've seen in an EA game in awhile. But all I've heard of the music selection is "Kung-Fu Fighting", and that's not really a, uh, good thing. I don't know much about how the gameplay works, either. I think I could be happy with a whole game that plays like Rayman's music minigame, just with a smidgen more depth.

Haven't seen the full playlist yet? Any rhythm game featuring "Love Rollercoaster" and "One More Time" can't be all that bad (though I'm disappointed by their Blondie pick-"One Way or Another" over "Heart of Glass"?!-and was secretly hoping for "Electric Slide" XD).

PS: Almost forgot this-a song not on that list. Grease FTW!

Joooooin the daaaark siiiiideeeee

Says me with one of the last 20gb PS3s. In the lineup you also forgot Lair which looks like a non-sucky Drakengard, and Assassin's Creed, one title that's got all the guys out in the US horny as hell.

Resistance is by *far* the most boss game out for the system right now, and a killer launch title to boot. FORTY-freakin multiplayer online, almost no lag.

Also, Last Remnant, Possession, Resident Evil 5, TimeShift, many promising titles up...

I get what you're saying. No matter how much the Nintendo fanboys may hate me for saying so, the Wii is not a true next-gen console. It's a step in an entirely different direction that people so far have treated like a next-gen console (which is why so many of the third-party Wii games are sucking a lot right now as nobody besides Nintendo really know how to make use of the controller ( ... )

Several of those you mentioned aren't PS3 exclusive, which is why I didn't mention them. I did genuinely forget Lair, though, and I really shouldn't: it feels to me like a re-imagining of Panzer Dragoon. Last Remnant, on the other hand, rings bells reminiscent of Drakengard, and I mean that in the worst way. Of course it looks good, but what Squeenix game doesn't? It's coming from a developer that has found fantastic ways to flop up action games on all but one occasion.

20 gigs is nice, but for all they want to support on the PS3 it's really not enough. It sorta discourages their own offerings when they're selling such a package. Plus, we all need a little Wifi in our lives.

Fallout I still need to read up on. I'm not familiar with the series.
