OOC Prompt: By the Numbers: 5 Senses

Taste
Courtney was sweet with an acrid edge, like the air in the seconds after lightning. Djehuty was warm and sweet, slightly musty like some fine exotic ale and the air of bookshops. He was grateful to them, but still craved that first taste, of woods full of wild things and seasons pushing against each other in opposite directions. He missed the taste of doors held open between worlds and a land that lay waiting for him to taste it.

Touch
The ritual was painful, but the pain was familiar. Each morning he pulled back the curtain, his collar left slightly open to ensure the light reached at least part of his neck. The sunlight on his face burned and boiled but he welcomed the warmth, grateful the world gave him a way to hide in plain sight.

Sight
Some nights when all the house was abed he would slip out, exploring the garden on silent feet. The nights of the full moon were an unwise choice, but when the moon was a sliver he indulged in this, studying the world at peace bathed in blue and silver. It had never occurred to him that others might not be able to appreciate the half-lit garden in such detail, but the sight gave him a sense of calm that was hard to find.

Smell
He had argued with a tutour once that the shower should not be excluded from the list of great marvels in technology. What good would the plumbing of the toilet be if the people continued to walk about as richly perfumed with their daily life as he had once been used to? Every day he took advantage of the indoor waterfall, scrubbing himself clean of the odours of life. It was self-indulgent, he knew, but one whiff of the world Thorn had known and his tutour might have agreed.

Sound
Thorn was careful to sing only behind closed doors. He had made the mistake once, and been caught and exposed for it once the listener had recovered. No one heard the sweet keening cry that the music of Jonny Lang, U2, and Matchbox 20 became when uttered from his throat.
