OOC Prompt: Collective Nouns: Army of Frogs

Nov 27, 2007 21:24

Thorn woke slowly, foggy with dreams of the woods in the rain. He had never been found of his time in the woods between villages, where all nature seemed to turn against him. Surely he had woken to odd sights before, and it took him a long moment to register that he was in his own bed, in Miss Leela’s house. The frog should not have been on his pillow.
As frogs go it was quite small, more brown than green and still faintly damp. As he sat up, he saw several more on the carpet, hopping about aimlessly. A moment of panic overtook him as he recalled vague tales of plagues in Egypt and the wrath of god, but there were only a few frogs, and they seemed fairly benevolent. Once fully if hurriedly dressed he peered under the bed from which another had just hopped, and saw the large mixing bowl half-full of water there. He drew it out warily, noting the rocks, dirt, and bits of algae. There was still a lone tadpole, or at least a young frog with a significant tail swimming about in the bottom. The only sensible course seemed to be to catch them and put the lot outside, and ask questions later. Fortunately he had his answer when Master Tom knocked quietly on the door and, receiving no reply, slipped inside. Thorn his his head on the underside of the desk when he noticed the boy, guilty and embarrassed. After a brief explanation, Thorn sold his silence in exchange for Tom’s catching the last and most slippery of the frogs. Once the bowl was washed and restored to the cabinet, Miss Leela would be none the wiser.

Plot suggested by Bridgie.
