Small size was an advantage in the thieving profession. Cat burglary was not unknown to him, but by and large Thorn survived by the contents of pockets and purses. His height put him closer to eye level with his targets, and even when he was past being mistaken for a child he had an easier time slipping away, squeezing down narrow alleys where he was difficult to follow. More often than not, people did not notice in time to pursue him at all.
