[Personality] Selfish, greedy, ruthless when it comes to money and a thief that’s more than willing to hide behind others and let them fight her battles for her; this is often the first impression of Nami, and honestly it’s not that far from the truth. She’s all of those things to some degree. After the murder of her adoptive mother and the taking over of her village by the pirate Arlong, Nami was offered a deal to buy her village back for 100 million beli, and so from the age of ten until she met Luffy and Zoro, Nami worked hard to make that money …by stealing it from every pirate she could find. She’s had an eight year career as a sneak thief, desperately trying to make the money to free her village, and she was very good at it. The day she met Luffy, she first tricked him into fighting the pirates chasing her while she got away, and then later in the same day sold Luffy out to the same pirates to use him as a distraction so she could steal a map. So yeah …first impression, you could be forgiven for thinking Nami wasn’t the nicest of women.
But Nami has good reason to hate pirates, given how Arlong killed her mother and then forced her to work for them. She’s quite friendly with Luffy until she learns he’s also a pirate, and after that she just considers him fair game - but when she realises her selfishness is going to get Luffy killed, she risks her neck to save his life. Shortly after that, she begins to realise that not all pirates are like Arlong, and agrees to join Luffy’s crew (the Straw Hat pirates) as his navigator on a temporary basis.
Nami is proud and never gives reasons for why she steals the way she does, and Luffy never asks. It’s only when things come to a head and the life of everyone in her village is at stake that she breaks down and asks for help - and Luffy and his crew give it without question, taking down Arlong and saving the village and freeing her from all obligations. After that, Nami gives her loyalty to the Straw Hats unconditionally. It’s entirely probable that the crew were her first friends. Selfish, greedy, money-loving to a fault and she’ll still get others to fight her battles for her where she can - but she’ll never sell her friends out, and god help anyone who tries to hurt those she cares about, because while she’d much rather hide behind the more active fighters in the crew, she can and will step up to the plate when the situation calls for it. (Or, you know, there’s nobody else around she can boss into doing it for her, but she’s actually pretty okay in a fight; it’s just far more practical to get someone who’s really good to stand in for her, y’know?)
Nami is a very smart, street-savvy woman who’s probably the most rational person in the Straw Hat pirates, which makes her very bossy by nature, and she’s not afraid to slap her captain upside the head and call him an idiot. However, she has total trust in all her crew. She’s a highly attractive woman and knows it, and will happily use it to her advantage whenever she can, especially if there’s riches to be gained. And if a guy is willing to wait on her hand and foot just because she’s pretty, she’s more than happy to let him do it with an indulgent smile and a thank you. She has little modesty, having once changed clothes in a roomful of men without batting an eyelid, and on the occasion that her crew were caught spying on her in the baths, she dropped her towel completely and charged them all 100,000 beri for the privilege.
Nami’s favourite things in life are maps, mikan and money, and her dream in life is to make a map of the world. On that note, she’s also a prodigious navigator and has an uncanny sense of the weather to the point that people have called her a witch on occasion. But really, she’s just a natural at navigation, and her skill in manoeuvring the Straw Hats’ ship through the unpredictable Grand Line has been commented on by many.
[Specialties/Abilities] She has a near-supernatural sense of the weather, being able to predict the supposedly unpredictable cyclones of the Grand Line, and her weapon is the Perfect Climatact, which can create a variety of weather on a small scale, from lightning storms the size of a football oval to rain to being able to hide herself behind a blanket of cool air and create up to five mirages of herself.
[Affection] OOCly I have no problem with people being affectionate toward Nami if it's IC for them - ICly Nami will be rather surprised and probably deal with it pretty awkwardly, unless you're already a close friend of hers. |D
[Fighting] Fighting and injuring is fine, but no maiming or killing please - but I'm always open to talk about it if you want to plot something more serious out. :o Nami is no powerhouse and damn easy to beat in terms of physical strength - but then she engages in sneaky tactics. Like mirages while she's busy setting you up to be struck half a dozen times by lighting. So she's no pushover, but she'll still elect to run if she has a choice.
[Other Permissions] Be as intrusive as you like. I'd rather she didn't get fourth walled, though - or rather, recognising her as from One Piece is just fine, but I'd rather she didn't get told that. Mind reading etc. is A-Ok.
[Other Facts] Nami's a pickpocket, and the possibility exists that if she has cause not to like you or thinks you may be hiding something, she may go through your pockets. o/ S'worth mentioning if anyone wants to build any kind of plot/CR (positive or negative) off that. Either way, I'd ping a mun and ask permission before she did anything of the kind.
