Character's Name: Nami
Series: One Piece / I'll be taking her from after the Incident at Sabaody Archipelago, five days after that Bartholomew Kuma sends her flying and away from her nakama, and a bit after waking up on Weatheria Island. Also known as “The very last time she was seen again, sob!”
History:
Nami was found orphaned by a female marine named Bellemere, who thought she herself was dying in the middle of a battle field. The Marine woman, having found this laughing child in the arms or another older girl (Nojiko), found new life return to her, a desire to live and raise these children as her own. The three became a tight knit family, though very different from each other. Nami has been known to refer to them as her mother and sister, even if they aren’t blood. She doesn’t know a thing about her real parents or life before this.
As a child Nami developed a very early love for navigations and cartography (map drawing). Her goal in life was to see and draw a map of the world, which she practiced as often a she could. Though Bellemere raised the two girls off funds from her milkin groves, she didn't make much money, thus feeding them often from the groves themselves and providing a meager existence. Because of this Nami picked up the habit of stealing books on navigation and cartography from the town book store, only sometimes being caught doing so. Generally, when caught, Mr Genzo would be the voice of law, grabbing her, taking her home and reprimanding Bellemere on raising a better daughter! Though nine times out of ten he would pay for the book for her, all while complaining as he dragged her home.
While being given more fixed hand-me-downs Nami complained about it, whining like a child and finally coming out with the fact that Nojiko isn't even her real sister, causing Bellemere to slap her. Nami ran off yelling she wished she had been adopted by rich people, sounding harsh and upset, much like children can. Bellemere, feeling touched by this decides to spend some money and make one of Nami's favorite meals, breaking her budget but doing it out of love for her girls. Sending Nojiko to find Nami it left Bellemere alone in the home.
Meanwhile the pirate gang of fishman that formed under Arlong had come to town to make a tax visit, terrorizing the village to force them to pay to live. It was a debt for so much an adult, and half as much a child, in the end the price was far out of Bellemeres reach. As Arlong found the lone adult woman in her house cooking, he charged her the fee, but it was said she had children and her fee would be too much. Bellemere was to be made an example to the village of what would happen if one couldn't pay the Arlong Pirates their dues. In the end, Bellemere gave him his dues, but only for the children, leaving her life in the hands of the pirate. She cried out that she would rather dye then deny the fact that those girls were hers. Arlong shot her in front of the two girls. Nami was then kidnapped and forced to become a cartographer for Arlong after he notices the home made maps in her home.
Just as the villagers banded together to go fight Arlong and take back the little Nami, she returned with a hand full of money, a huge wibbling smile and a fresh tattoo on her arm, the mark of Arlong. She was given a deal; if she brought him 100,000,000 bari/bali he would free her village and leave them be. She couldn’t tell the villagers of this deal though and thus she worked very hard for years trying to save up the money for this, being shunned by the villagers and considered a stupid child, betraying them like that. She worked alone for a very long time.
At the start of the series it's been eight years since that, and she's wandered the seas, stealing money form pirates mostly, collecting treasure and goods, ships and things that she could use to make a profit. She hid the money away on the island, in a small milkin grove, underground. For eight years she saved, letting the village shun her, and almost all was good until she met Luffy and his “crew”.
At first she just wanted to use them like she did anyone else. She hated pirates and had no issues with working with them to gain a treasure then steal it all away. She joins the crew (which consists of Luffy and Zoro at the time) but only temporarily. Over time they went on a few small adventures, soon picking up Usopp and the Going Merry (their new ship) setting sail as a group of four... well, pirates. It was as the crew was looking for a cook at the Baratie floating restaurant that she set in her biggest betrayal. Sneaking off with the ship, and its treasure, leaving the boys on the floating restaurant she headed back for her village, believing she was almost done with her savings.
After some events, the crew all manages to make it to Commi Island, finding 'the witch of Cocoyashi' and hearing her tragic tail. They find out she was basically captive to Arlong, and the noble work she had been doing to try and save the village. A paid off Marine crew came to the island around the same time, coming to arrest Nami and take her treasure. Arlong had paid them a large fee because he was worried she’d get too far. He promised them a percentage of all she had saved if they found it. With the treasure gone, she ran to Arlong to confront him, but he denied it.
She storms out, returning to the village to hear them gathering. They confess to Nami that they all knew what was going on, they decide to at last take the burden from her shoulders, rallying together to go and take out Arlong themselves. She knew they can't do anything to stop Arlong, he was far too strong for any of them! As she attempted to stop them from leaving they force past her saying enough is enough. They would all go to their death and she knew it. Falling to the ground she cried in a sudden wash of pain over so many years of trying. All for nothing! She tried to tell them she would try again. She would save for as many years as it would take; she was older now, it would be easier! But no, they all marched off.
Everything was falling apart and the people of the village whom she loved were all going to die. Upset with Arlong she pulled her dagger, stabbing herself in the shoulder, trying to mar and remove the tattoo she hated so much. Luffy stepped in out of no here, grabbing her hand and making her stop. In an iconic moment she is seen crying, true emotion and not a con this time, pleading Luffy to help, which, while dropping his straw hat on her head, agreed to do so. She watched as Luffy, Zero, Usopp and Sanji all left to face the pirates.
While Luffy fought Arlong he found a room full of maps from floor to ceiling, books and scrolls, pens and pencils, tools of a cartographer, a cramped room with lots of hard work in it. He saw the signs though of bloodied pens from too much use and understood the hate that Nami had for the room. He could tell this was the Nami hated being locked away in most and realized how he could help her. He destroyed the room, shoving the desk out a window, followed by the maps and papers, the pens and tools. He destroyed it all in his fight with Arlong, and when he rose up out of the rubble in the end he shouted as loudly as Luffy can, that "Nami is my Nakana!" to which she cries, nodding. She's never been more loyal.
With her village freed she indeed joined Luffy and his crew as their navigator and said good bye to what was left of her family. Putting forth one last show of her skill, she stole every wallet form the villagers that came to say good by to her, running and jumping onto the Going Merry at last moment. She dropped wallets, waving good bye and smiling. Though she stole their wallets, she left them the extremely large sum of money she had spent eight years collecting.
There have been many of adventures and lots of new crew mates to come, all of which she seems to be very loyal to and would even die for. The crew is nine men strong now, having gone nearly half way through the Grand Line looking for the One Piece Treasure. There has been a large bounty set on her head now, much like the rest of the crew and she's been close to death countless times now. But the more she fights and runs with this crew the stronger she gets.
In their last adventure they found themselves facing a horrific situation, having to battle at Sabaody Archipelago and ultimately being separated, the destruction of the Strawhat crew as they were over come by the power of Bartholomew Kuma. Kuma appeared, stepping in and tapping each of the crew members, unknowingly sending them away to different parts of the world. Kuma hit Nami, sending her flying for three days through the sky and landing on a small sky island called Weatheria.
While on Weatheria she found herself a bit disoriented on what's going on or where she was at first. A small old man looking like a long bearded wizard was suddenly there, causing her to panic, addressing her far too many times. She threw things at him and while yelling she scrambled off to a far wall, having a panic attack and freaking out on the man. After she calmed down more, he told her that he found her there and brought her in. He fed her and told her she'd been in a coma for two days. Trying to get her to relax, he showed her a mystical rope he called a "Wind Knot" which when the knots are pulled out one at a time can produce a small breeze, a gust or a gale.
When trying to leave the island, she found there was a horrifically large store coming in. Trying to stop it, she stole the Wind knot and attached it to her Clima-tact, running to a tall hill and spinning the end of the CLima-Tact. Throwing it upward the force knocked out the knots sending a huge cyclone up into the heavens and dispensing the storm. Collapsing back she sighed "Cool..." and lay there a bit. The old man found her, chuckling about how, even after a one time view; she had mastered the Wind Knot. It was here that she learned she was on a floating research Island and had no idea how to get back to her crew.
And she just had to find her crew; after all, with out her they could go no where with out getting lost.
Personality:
Nami is generally a greedy, brilliant, bossy and a talented young woman who will go to any means to get what she wants or protect those she loves. She's a skilled swimmer, navigator and cartographer who can sense the changing weathers and tides. The girl has very little modesty, wearing short and sometimes overly skimpy clothing, showing off her body a bit more then some people would do. She has no problem using her body to get what she wants but she also has no problem with going off on people who look at her body (generally because then she could charge them. Oh profit! $_$!)
She has been known to be self sacrificing in the fact that she gave up her childhood to try and buy back her village on her own. Because of her past with Arlong and her tragic childhood and being poor, Nami has grown a strong love of money in any form. Even the smallest task will get her attention for the right price. She will do almost anything for money, but the one thing she wont do is sell out her friends. Not anymore. There is no sum big enough for her to give up her friends anymore.
Friends are everything now, and she loves them almost as much as she loves her family back on Cocoyashi Island. Out of all of her crew mates, Luffy is the one she will support the most, even if she seems really annoyed with him a lot of the time, smashing her heel into his head and such. He's the one that freed her, making her respect him most out of anyone right now. She finds him utterly helpless at times, stupid, ignorant to the situations but... she has a real soft spot for him and thinks he's a really good captain.
As for others of the crew, Zoro, she thinks can be a hard headed ass who's only good at sleeping, Usopp is more crowdedly then she is, Sanji is easy to manipulate, Chopper easy to scare, Frankie and Brooke she's still not too sure on but is highly sure they are a pair of perverts. In general... even for all the faults she sees in them, she has faults too and knows it. They might frustrate her at times, but she'd not trade them in for anything. As for Robin, she being the only other girl on the ship, she likes having her around. She thinks of the older woman as almost a older sister and very much enjoys sitting with her, shopping, chatting about the idiocy of their crew and lounging around as Sanji brings them drinks.
Nami is considered one of the top smartest people in the East Blue (the artist has said she's the 3rd smartest in the sea, behind two older and smarter men only). She's the brains of the ship most the time, helping bring about plans to get form location to location, treasure to treasure. She's also the ships quartermaster and budget commander. Any time she sees the crew trying to squander the lovely hard earned money on stupid things she has a small horror fit to herself, unable to believe they would just toss it all away so easy. Then again... she does have a clothing fetish of her own.
Most of her money goes to clothing and other fashion accessories that make her happy. She's been known to go into really fancy stores and try on nearly everything, making it look like she's going to buy everything she tries on, taking the complements and giggling about this and that, only to walk out of the store saying "Thanks, but I think I’ll go find something more casual" and leaves. Generally she then goes to a smaller more casual wear store and buys out half the items with very little regard to how much she's spending.
When it comes to fighting, Nami is very much a coward and tends to find ways to make others fight for her, though this has been slowly changing through out the series as she herself has started to grow up. She’s learned to fight with the Clima-Tact and weather, and though she's not the strongest fighter, still rather weak and more of a straightest then anything, she can still hold her own. If she can sneak out of a fight first, she will, but if her friends are in danger she will put on a brave front, grab her Clima-tact and defend them as best as she can.
When faced with great danger Nami has been known to look for the best and fastest way out of it, as she's really not much into putting her life on the line or anything. That being said, she tends to have her life on the line often, as do most of the crew members. She's been seen stabbing herself in the hand to fake a death (For Usopp, early on) in order to save someone. She's also stabbed herself in the shoulder, taken some really hard hits and in general seen a lot of pain; all of this leading to the idea that she's not an ordinary woman and can handle a little pain here and there. Sure, it hurts, it affects her just like normal people, but she can handle it and when the time is really needed, she can take it with out a sound.
When situations change suddenly she tends to take it badly, becoming loud, easily scared and also easy to anger, though after she gets her barring she tends to settle into her surrounds better. In example, from where I am taking her from, she lands on a sky island and has a small panic fit when she wakes up because she has no clue where she is, what has happened, who the old man is and most importantly where her friends are. She doesn't like being alone anymore, which is on of her biggest changes. After spending so much time with the loud obnoxious crew of pirates, spending time alone and separated from them bothers her.
Powers and Abilities: First, her strongest skill is that of Navigating as well as cartography. To quote Arlong "I have sought navigators throughout the world but no one draws a map as accurate as her. She is very talented." And it's true too. It is said she is the third smartest person in the East Blue, one of the best cartographers on the seas, and a navigator to be matched by nearly no one.
She is capable of making advanced equations in a few minutes to determine the proper course of action to get her and her ships crew out of harms way, sail the fastest currents and get the ship to the right locations. She has an interesting ability to sense the changes of weather and tides, the seas currents and other ever changing weather patterns. When a storm or cyclone comes she will have already felt it coming before anyone else. Because of this she can use this in her navigation skills to keep her and her people safe.
Although she can pull off the advanced equations and navigation skills, she tends to write things down as she plots it all out. She has a very good memory for images when making maps, but she has no trust in her memory for the problems, thus always writing them down, taking notes and making sure the locations she's predicting are indeed right. It's more out of necessity to make it right and not leave openings for mistakes then not being able to. On that note, her memory, although not photographic, is considered very extremely sharp when it comes to remembering things she’s seen. This gives her an advantage when drawing charts and maps. Out of habit and easy, when she's bored she draws maps, even if they aren’t needed. After all, her lot in life is to draw a map of the world in every detail she can.
Nami is also an excellent thief and pickpocket, being able to swiftly swipe small things from a person with out them knowing at all until either she tells them or much later when they notice the object missing. Her sticky fingers has helped her filch many of Beli in her attempt to gather money to buy back her village. On occasion she has even gone to the point of cunning that she’s stolen full ships from pirates and people. For the longest time she hated pirates, thus working with them to find treasure, then stealing it behind their backs. She's known as a Cat burglar because of this, and a damned good one at that.
She's not much of a fighter, as said before, normally manipulating someone else to take charge and fight her battles. Or if it's really bad off, she tends to run away and let others deal with that kind of battle. At least she used to. She doesn't always run, and since she got a weapon of her own, the Clima-tact, she will stand and take her own fights more often then not. Though not a fighter and no formal training, she has a good hand for a bo staff or the Clima-Tact and can defend herself fairly well.
The Clima-Tact:
At first she relied on a bo staff to help defend herself, but after a while she needed a better weapon, one which Usopp made her called a Clima-Tact (Later upgraded to a Perfect Clima-Tact). At first it seems like a useless party trick contraption, shooting weird coco birds from it, and blowing bubbles and things, but she soon learned the real power of the staff, unlocking it's full potential to fight for herself. After Skypia and learning what 'dials' were, Usopp upgraded her weapon, leading to a much more powerful and devastating effects.
Each piece of the Clima-tact can make a bubble of air, each with its own properties. When the pieces are combined in different combinations and activated by pushing the right button they make very different results. Nami has played around with these bars, changing them into many different forms and creating different effects throughout the series.
With the power of the different poles and three different balls (heat, cool and thunder) she can cause many different weather attacks, such as cyclones, thunderbolts, tornados, fog, thunder storms and even mirages that make odd shaped clones of herself. All with a bit of creativity and her extensive knowledge of the weather, she had come to be the master of the Clima-tact to the point it appears that she knows magic.

http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Clima-Tact Memory Lost: Loss of Love: All memories of Bellemere, Nojiko, and Genzo
Reason: I've chosen to have her memories of her 'mother' Bellemere, her 'sister' Nojiko, and the man who acted most like a father figure to her, Genzo. If I can I’d like to remove the memories of her love and devotion to Cocoyashi village on Commi Island. I want to strip her of this memory and leave the negative memories of having to work for Arlong since she was small and not know why. It would remove her reasons for who she is today. Remove the love of Milkan fruits, the extreme need for money to buy the town from Arlong, and the loved ones she left there. I would like her to remember her time at Commi Island but mostly her time working with Arlong and his fishman pirates. Bellemere, Nojiko and Genzo are responsible for who she is, so to remove all that will bother her to not remember, because obviously there is a reason she is the way she is, she remembers the battle that Luffy and Arlong had, but doesn't understand why they would go that far for her, especially not after she stole their ship and treasures!
First Person Sample:
[An Accidental video post, as she has no idea what this thing is...]
[It came on in a blink, having been dropped in her panic, and now showing a skinny young woman seated against a wall, arms wrapped around bare legs, head hidden in her knees, hands grasping a strange blue staff tightly.]
[the sounds of her breathing were heavy, scared, like she had just been yelling. The view is of this girl, just sitting, for some time, seeming to calm down, though she grasps the staff in her hands tightly.]
[After a bit she finally seems more relax, more calm, looking around more.]
Not again... not again.... How did I end up here now?
[there is a long pause as she moved, lowering her slender legs and reaching for the cell phone she just noticed. The flashing catching her attention. Recording?]
Hello... what's this?
[With a sigh, she just... takes it, holding it so it's a bit covered, a good clear shot of her hand as she moves. It appears that she's standing, moving now, the heavy metallic scrape of her Clima-Tact heard as she picked it up again]
Nami... where have you landed this time? That crazy old man... I told him I needed to find my crew, but I didn't think I'd end up here...
…Where is here anyhow?
[It's still recording her hand, but she's walking now, talking to herself.]
This... place is almost as bad as Thriller Bark... -Oh... this is no time to get yourself worked up, girl... you have nakama to find...
Third Person Sample:
Nami really had no clue what had happened. At one moment she was standing on a hill, outside and enjoying the weather, talking to that damned creepy old man about her new current location. Weathera? Where was that?! And how did she get there? He had said she had been there for two days unconscious, and she had no idea how long before she had been separated from her nakama.
Now, of all the strange things, she woke up somewhere new. What the hell did that old man do!? She said she had to find her nakama as soon as possible, but she didn't expect to be left alone, again, in some strange city! What island was this anyhow?
"Hello?!" She called, loudly, standing silent to try and hear now. Nothing. Nothing but wind. She held her breath, trying to hear any form of living being but got nothing. That scared her more then anything else right now. She could feel the panic welling up.
"L-luffy..." she whimpered to herself, calling on her Captain as if he would hear and be there suddenly. Oh how she hated being alone now. She had managed just fine back at the-- back at-- hmm... Oh, when she was working for Arlong, so long ago. She'd go out on her own all the time. Now? Not she had gotten used to having the loud obnoxious group of rowdy pirates around all the time.
The more she thought on it, and the more she felt like something was missing, the more she panicked. Before long she was spinning around the empty street and crying out for someone, anyone, but no one seemed to answer. She turned, dropping something, and dropped to the wall, sliding to the sidewalk. Tucking her arms around her bare legs, she cursed the old man, she cursed Barthalomew Kuma for sending her packing, and she cursed...
She couldn't remember exactly.
Sitting there for a few minutes, she got herself calm again. She had to get her head about her once more and figure out what to do. If she didn't find the crew they’d be lost with out her. Damn it, the only other one with a level head on their shoulders was Robin!
It took her a bit, but after finding the small flashing device she dropped, picking it and her Clima-Tact up, she got her head about her again, and... started looking for someone, anyone. After all, someone had to know where she was, “right?” Talking to herself, trying not to freak out again, she set her jaw and started down a street, eyes searching. A dock. A ship. Something. Someone! If she could just... figure this out, she'd be fine.
Really fine.
