Ragnarok fanfic again, but first I brood about Alessa Talance, another of my characters. I used to play her in game, but my love and attention has passed onto my fighter, Alena Sunlace. Anyway.

Riveting. As you know, I don't know much about Ragnarok, but like you said this stands alone---and well. The opening paragraph set the mood and tone of the story well, a tranquil beginning that softened the coming malice, even though you already mentioned from the start that there are thieves. I like the imagery of the silvery blued darkness against the sudden coming of firelight and the sharp shadows that brought. I also liked the progression of each attacker from one family member to the next. Enough information has been given for each to make me feel more sympathetic, adds more edge to their plight.
T-T Ah... the mess religion brings. I do love how the thieves, creatures of the shadows, rose up together to form a solid sort of identity. I like the Osiris worship thing... and I wonder what would happen to the children now. Or if Erin did survive as I'm more inclined to guess. (though I'm probably wrong)
And I love the repetition of "In the name of." It's like an unfinished prayer. Or rather, a prayer one started, but one cannot
