MML: Hold On

Apr 20, 2003 02:19

So far I have managed to successfully write once day. I committed myself to that once vacation started in the hopes I'd get some work done. However, I have so many open stories (count is at 6 now, not including abandoned D/G) that I end up writing a little bit in them so that I don't progress very much in any of them. Ho hum.

MML: Hold On

Elesta clung onto Audrey, afraid that if she let go Audrey would leave her forever.

"Please, don't. Don't leave. I'm sorry, Audrey, I'm sorry for everything I said. I didn't mean it, not a single word."

Her voice was absolutely earnest in her pleading as she tried desperately to keep the nagging edge out of it. She knew Audrey hated it when she nagged and that Audrey wouldn't stay a moment longer if she felt Elesta was being suffocating. Audrey had such an independent streak that she could easily throw their friendship away if it annoyed her.

Her tan arm was rigid under Elesta's grasp. It was slim, rather like Elesta's own. If she wanted, Elesta could easily overpower Audrey and chain her to herself so that Audrey couldn't leave... But if she did, Audrey would be lost to her. Even now, she was straining against Elesta, ready to tear away and leave Elesta crumpled and used.

Mentally, Elesta reached out, trying to penetrate the barrier into Audrey's emotions. But her friend was mysteriously silent. Audrey had learned to toughen the shell around her feelings so that Elesta couldn't cheat her way past them.

Now it was only guesswork. There was nothing else for Elesta to fall back on other than her personal knowledge of Audrey. She had plenty of that. Years of it.

Slowly, Elesta lifted her fingers one by one, until she had fully released her friend. To keep Audrey there, she would have to let her go, no matter how much she couldn't bear to.

The other girl stood unnervingly still, not even a strand of her brown hair moving. Elesta felt the hope quickly rise up. Audrey would stay, she would let her continue to be her friend. Elesta needed a friend so much right now. She felt so left out of everything.

"This won't work, Elesta."

Elesta stared at the honey brown of Audrey's eyes. How- how could eyes as sweet as that look so hard?

"I'm tired. I can't stand your clinginess anymore, your nagging, your worrying."

Elesta felt every word pierce into her, like pins. She could only listen helplessly as the native girl went on.

"I tried before but now I can't. You're like a bind on me, holding me back endlessly. I just need to be free from you, Elesta."

Audrey's head was strangely bowed as she spoke, but each word was clear, resonating within Elesta as a bell just struck would resonate with sound.

"I can't stand you anymore."

Elesta's heart fell apart.

That came out all wrong. But I promised myself I'd write something. Even that. ^^;

Why is narration between the same genders so difficult? I have to keep using their names. Must find examples to get around this. Must read more.

Birthday greets to irisakura!

Edit: AUGH! My LJ cut didn't work. Fixed now. Apologies to friends. ^^;;
