february in bits, part 2

In which there are a lot of day-snippets: kids, clubs, dinner...

4-5 February.

Yeah, they’re just plain cute.

10-11 February, some random pub-club visits….

Rolling Stone on Moniuszki, a very proud English pub. What I liked most was this wall of random clippings, and especially this part: Queen Elizabeth II… and the photo next to her says “Vladimir Lenin, four years old”. Glorious.

Lizard, a place that has live music. The crowd were mostly of the late-20s hipster style.

Still Lizard, upstairs. Those squares on the floor in the left photo are actually thick panes of glass, which means that from upstairs you can see the band playing on the stage a floor below.

Emilia; Agnieszka and crowd as we left. Went out for a girls’ night with Dominika. There was a plan for Club Go-Go (*cough*) but then another friend, Jędruś (ye-oon-droosh), joined us, which meant that an all-girls’ night was off the menu.

Then were some quick runs through places. This is Honey Bunny, probably the most pretentious place we went all night. The crowd were mostly under-25s in tight jeans with asymmetrical haircuts. It was almost emo! Memories. Awesome light-squared dancefloor, though, and the atmosphere was stuck-up but pretty - funky furniture and elaborate wallpaper. The actual place? Gorgeous.

Ah, Łódź Kaliska. The way I understand it, there used to be a group of artists in the late 80s who hung around the Łódź Kaliska transport depot. They were a bit out-there (of course, they were artists) and decided to open a nightclub, which they named after their favourite hangout. Well, it’s now a club with three floors, a fantastic reputation, and lots of funky nooks and hidden surprises. Among these “surprises” are the toilets, which I tried to photograph but couldn’t. Point is, if you’ve never been there before and you’re drunk, well, it’s an experience. You go to the toilet, sit down, and… there are people at the bar waving at you. Laughing at you. Can they see you? Oh my God, how embarrassing, they can see you in the toilet. You blush! You panic! Unless you’ve already realised that they see a mirror and can’t actually see you, while you see out. Two-way mirrors. It’s an experience. You’re surrounded by glass and can see everything happening in front of you, beside you, and under your feet. Crazy artists, indeed. Oh, and that’s the wallpaper in the ladies’.

The last place of the night, the name of which I don’t remember.

Bogna and Ania.

Agnieszka and Emilia; Jędruś and Dominika. No, no one was my age. This was meant to be a Bridget Jones evening, dammit!

My favourite part of this place was the back of the wall - the plush red couch-like surface, with curled-over tops and little lamps. Nice atmosphere, apart from the pounding music and bored DJ who looked like he was reading exam notes.

Dominika, post-imbibing.

12-13 February, father’s property hunting and dinner.

Tata.

Dinner at SerVantka, random little restaurant, with Joanna, a doctor friend of my dad’s.

Wish I had something more exciting for you…
