Why are people so self centered? Someone who used to be a friend keeps sending me updates on her kid's medical issues. While I wish everyone healthy kids, I don't much care. Not only that but I checked with someone when she got married IF she was taking her husband's name. She decided not to. However I just saw on fb that her sister has her listed ( Read more... )

The "used to be a friend" thing is weird for a lot of people. Maybe not you. But to me it's something that's regularly causing awkwardness/frustration/pain for me. After all, even if we've drifted apart, they were an important part of my life and still matter.

I often make the huge mistake of assuming others think the way I do. Maybe she's doing the same thing? You still matter to her, so she assumes she, and her family by association, still matters to you. No so much self-centeredness as flawed logic.

And to have a child with health problems has to be really emotionally straining. She's probably desperate for all the support she can get.
