In college, at some point, we have all lived on Ramen noodles. They're cheap, easy to make and did I mention cheap? After college, I swore I'd never eat them again. I would find better things to eat and besides, I was gonna be making money in the Big World and wouldn't need to buy Ramen anymore ( Read more... )

dress with a sauce of peanut butter, soy and a bit of sugar and maybe a pinch of the spice packet. you have to heat it to get the peanut butter to melt, so cook it up, and let it cool and add to cooked, rinsed and cooled noodles.

add chopped veggies of the sort you might associate with a california roll.

this is nice in the summer.

you could also get a hotpot -they abound at thrift stores - and use that to get your water hotter a little faster than it would take sharing a breakroom microwave.

I'm not suffering any particular economic woes and I still eat Ramen.

Stir fry meat and vegetables of choice and serve them over Ramen instead of rice.

Egg drop soup: break up Ramen into smallish pieces and put it into a pot of boiling water. Add the spice packet and/or any other flavors that groove you. when the ramen is soft, stir that water to get it moving in a spiral. Then, break 1 or more eggs into the water, keeping it spiraling. The motion of the water will draw the egg apart into neato threads of cooked egg. I would add peas and chopped scallions.

if at any point you find yourself craving (and having the fixins) for a salad, you can fry the dry noodles in a little oil for a minute or two. Put the fried noodles over the salad and it gives a bit more "ooomph" to the meal. For lunching at work, you can fry them ahead of time and just toss them on whenever.
