I love this and the whole Strays series. And now I've got American Pie stuck in my head ...

You and me both. I've had it stuck for days, and now I have shared the earworm.

Interesting take on this. Perhaps more obviously, it could have been a celebration of being alive, but you took it in a whole other direction, and really, that fits much better into this 'verse you've created.

There's such a sense of unreality around Ianto. Before, no one recognized him. Now they do, but except for Jack, don't remember the same events he does and have no idea what he's experienced. And so many other things have changed. He's back, but still so disconnected. It's like there's a whole different story going on behind the scene.

Favorite things: (1) The sex scene at the beginning, that was just a bit off. It wasn't anything blatant, but it left me feeling uneasy. (2) Ianto in the hub. It really just made me ache for what's no longer there. (3) The graveyard. Ianto finding his grave. Jack finding Ianto, and remembering. Tomorrow will only be worse. The chocolate bars.

:D

This story series is so much about memories, I don't think I could have gone celebratory. (Now over in the Rabbit Hole, they'd have had an orgy with cake.) Even when I started writing the sex, it suddenly and rapidly became obvious (to me) that Jack already knew and was failing to deal. And that set up the rest.

Thanks for dropping by!

Hey Nance, lovely to see a story from you! And Strays Verse, how fab.

This was very melancholic, I especially loved the chocolate bars. The mood of the whole story was very well done, it felt off from the start, reflecting how Ianto was feeling. I also was left wondering how their next day would go, which would be a great follow up story, just saying...

I loved it, made me feel a bit unsettled.

Hee, not that I ever write follow-ups to things, oh no ... :)

Unsettled is good. It's a sort of happy ending, which apparently is all I can do.
